Are you sure you can fire the same weapon twice? I thought that it would only let you fire the arc and the whip. Although the whip isn't exactly a gun ...

Go with the save. You'll need it against other superheavies, and S9 AP1 Ordinance doesn't really need tank hunter badly. Although it would be nice.

I believe you could also Skyfall them. It is a skimmer, and it can deep strike.

Why wouldn't you be able to? It does say 'one more than normal' but no restrictions on whether or not you can fire the same weapon twice.

And 45 points only to get one shot against side armor and pinning? No thanks. Maybe if the lith didn't already DS, but even then...that spearhead is best suited for something with more weapons, like an LR.

Skyfall requires skimmers. And nothing about 'moving at up to cruising speed, fire one more weapon than would normally be permitted' says 'fire the same weapon twice'.

It's cheap, and gives you an automatic side shot against Russ hulls and such that you might not manage a side shot on the deep strike turn.

monoliths are skimmers.

How so does firing the whip twice not equal firing more than one weapon normally allowed?

And 45 points for a one time use spearhead? Nah, I'll use my 45 points to bolster the rest of my army somewhere else. It's useful for other armies, sure, especially ones that have much cheaper vehicles that still have powerful weapons.

*Edit*
Ah, saw your thread you created in YMDC about the Whip debacle.

One more than normal is not same weapon twice. Unless of course there is some rule I don't know about as I don't know much about spearhead.

In the 4th ed, a Destroyer-heavy army was able to pick apart an SM force.
But for scoring purposes, Necron armies have to spend more points on Warriors.
Necrons are the worst army in the 40k universe, hands down.

In the GT final last year, I faced an experienced Necron player with 3 Monoliths, 2000 pts.
This poor guy hasn't won a game.

Did his Monoliths keep dying to lucky shots, or did he get phased out by armies that got around the 'Liths? Whirlwinds, deep striking Ironclads, and lucky Conversion Beamer explosions can ruin a Necron's day.

Necrons are good as the attacker in planetstrike since you don't need warriors.

There will be a lot of terrain I made sure of that, so the super heavy tanks will have little space to manouver in but what then, night fighting is also included so that benefits the Necrons . Should I get the Super heavies with my 3 liths or the Nightbringer ?
