Actually, you might be able to bypass the issue by browsing by IP address instead of domain name. Some of the more hilariously terrible filters (or hilariously terrible IT departments) only filter by domain name, but not by actual IP, so you can sidestep it that way maybe. Either way, I'm kind of shocked at the policy myself. I've always worked in places where there is no independent thought filter on the internet. I have access to a direct connection that bypasses our proxy. I can listen to pandora, visit whatever site feels good, and do god knows what else, provided that it can handle being NATed. The 90s were a long time ago. I'm surprised some policy-makers still hold onto them.

Most of the better filters today filter by both IP/address as well as do packet inspection (like looking into 443 traffic). I used to use the IP bypass loads o'times back in the day (90's). But now, with so many federal regulations in place, internet access has to be locked down, filtered etc. All because of the "threat" of lawsuit. I hate lawyers....

After "Porngate" occurred at two seperate plants in our company around the same time, they are very strict on internet usage. I can surf here, but am careful about where else I might go.
And using google as a proxy isn't 100% fool proof. I fired one of my technicians for using google image searches to look at porn at work. Our HR manager had never heard of such.

Seriously though, if you look at porn at work, you have issues.
If I was in charge, I would let my people browse.
Just remind them unsubtly that we know EVERYTHING you are looking at.
Everything!

VPN = Virtual Private Network
Basically it lets you send all of the information request to a server in what ever country your VPN is located, and then that server contacts the interwebz for you and sends back the info.
Both the to and from are encrypted so no one can easily snoop on you, and every thing you visit will only see the VPNs IP address.

Anonymizers are not entirely secure. If an anonymizer keeps logs of incoming and outgoing connections and the anonymizer is physically located in a country where it is subjected to warrant searches then there is a potential risk that government officials can reverse engineer and identify all users who used the anonymizer and how they used it. Most anonymizers state they do not keep logs but there is currently no way to confirm that.
anonymizing an HTTP connection but not a DNS lookup can reveal the location of the viewer.
(C/P from wiki, too lazy to write it up for you).

I can guarantee any service backed by the Swedish pirate party does not keep records. Moreover thanks to Swedish privacy laws a crime has to have a minimum of 5 year jail sentence for any company to release personal information (if indeed they have it on hand)
So as long as you are not a huge scumbag (i.e. Child Pr0n, or terrorist activity) no one is going to know what you do with your computer.
