I don't know what kind of prize support the finals have ( I welcome someone to fill me in as I am curious) but they USED to be amazing from what I remember the first 2. They were listed and advertised on the web page back in the day (remember the FW greater demon of slaanesh and the FW trygon models and so on?). Now since they don't advertise the prizes I imagine they might be greatly toned down!?

Prizes right now are just trophies, and bragging rights <--- for whatever that’s worth. I'm still going to go and win muhaaaaa muhaaaaaa lol.

my friend got first in Sac location and will be attending the LA finals. However he was just told that all the winners from this round will continue on to another "FINAL" round which will be in Las Vegas. Anyone else hear the same?

Las Vegas Throne of Skulls in 2011. Same Golden Tickets as at the other Indy GT's. Top 2 people at each 'Ardboyz Finals get them.

The email I got from GW stated that the top three finishers from each location will receive invitations to the Las Vegas Throne of Skull Grand Tournament

So noted, and makes sense. Finishing in the top 3 of 'Ardboyz takes more effort than top 2 of many other tournaments.

also looks like they are keeping in allies for the witch hunter and daemonthunter book for the finals.

Yes, I asked about that yesterday, and got confirmation today that there are no changes to DH/WH codices.

I called into the LA Battle Bunker today, and got confirmation. They are NOT using Adepticon rulings this year at THIS venue.
So if you have any questions, you may wish to ask in advance.
I talked to James Bell.

I don't think any of the three venues are using INAT this year. It was used last year because the person running the finals was very familiar with it. It's still a useful reference, but not the last word on an subject. I'd recommend that people who have questions call/email the judge for that venue if they have questions.

If youre not using the INAT please take the time to rule on stuff like doom of malantai before the tournament!

For the reference of players going to the LA Battle Bunker ONLY, here is what was pre-ruled on Tyranids:

Page 33; Shadow In The Warp
“Any enemy psyker that takes a Psychic test within 12” of a Tyranid with the Shadow in the Warp special rule must take the test on 3D6 and will suffer a Perils of the Warp attack on the roll of any double 1 or double 6.”
Page 26; Runes of Witnessing
“A Farseer with runes of witnessing rolls 3D6 and discards the highest roll when taking a Psychic test. You must use the lowest two rolls.”

Q: How does Shadow in the Warp function versus the Eldar Runes of Witnessing?
A: When these two rules interact, the Eldar Player rolls 4d6 and disregards the highest die. Any double ones or double sixes cause a perils as normal.

Q: Does Shadow in the Warp affect embarked psykers who are taking a Psychic test?
A: Yes. If any part of the transport hull is within the 12” effect, then shadows affects the embarked psyker (as would a psychic hood in similar circumstances).

Page 56; Alien Cunning
“Whilst the Swarmlord is alive, you must add 1 to any reserve rolls. In addition, if any of your units arrive using the outflank ability, you may re-roll the dice to determine which table edge they arrive from.”

Q: Can the Alien Cunning Reserves bonus be utilized even if the Swarmlord is in Reserve?
A: Yes (Similar units in the Guard and Eldar books confer their bonuses when off the table).

Page 58; Spirit Leech
“At the beginning of every Shooting phase, including the foe’s, every non-vehicle unit within 6” of the Doom of Malan’tai must take a leadership test on 3D6. If the test is failed the unit suffers a single wound for each point they failed by, with no armour save allowed.”

Q: Can the Doom of Malan’tai’s Spirit Leech affect units embarked in vehicles/buildings?
A: Spirit Leech affects any unit that could normally be affected by a shooting attack and allows cover saves as normal. A unit embarked inside a transport cannot be shot at, so the Spirit Leech has no effect in this case. A Unit inside a building or ruin can be shot at, so the Spirit Leech can affect them as normal, but the unit would receive the relevant cover saves.

Page 85; Wings
“Models equipped with wings move in the same way as Jump Infantry, as described in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook.”

Q: Can a non-jump infantry model equipped with wings make use of the Deep Strike reserve option?
A: Any Model capable of moving as Jump Infantry may use Deep Strike reserve options. This includes things like Daemon Princes, Winged Hive Tyrants, and Tyranid Harpies.

At the East Coast location, we'll be using the same rulings as the LA bunker is using, in the above post.

Hey Mikhaila, is there a hotel near your location that you recommend? I was just checking hotels.com, and the Quality Inn looks to be cheap and close, but figured I'd ask if that's the closest/best option, if if there's anything else.

That' a decent hotel, and it's right across the street from the Mall, so a preferred choice for most people. There's a Denny's right next to it for early breakfast or latenight snacks. Quality inn is probably the best choice. I think if you say you are there for an event at Granite Run Mall, they have a discount rate.

It seems like there is not as much excitement this year about the finals. Maybe splitting it into three locations reduced the fervor a tad.

Maybe. I think the online chatter cut down a lot after the semis last year too; fewer people able to play means fewer people talking about it.

I'm still waiting.. I really want to change my list up too. Since I'm traveling, I don't want to pack a ton of stuff i'm not using. Hopefully, they will get these posted within the next couple hours.

I have seen the scenarios and have basically been told not to disclose them. I can say that they are all pretty straightforward, except the middle mission deployment is really odd. There is nothing like mission 3 from the prelims, so certain builds are not directly punnished, but the second mission might make certain Nid and Tau players unhappy.

FYI for the LA Bunker we are supposed to have an even number of participants, but if someone no shows, I will run a guard army as the ringer (mech guard with some PA GK allies) if it is needed. If you win or tie the ringer, you get a major win. If you lose to the ringer, you get a minor win. All bonus points for the scenarios are scored as they are.

Because this is a final, all pairings in the first round are blind draw, no exceptions. Subsequent pairings will be done by BPs, with tie breakers being the BPs of opponents you faced prior. The place is going to be busy (there is a huge Fantasy Tournament I am helping to run at the same time), so plan accordingly.

I don't see any missions posted online, so I guess it's going to be a surprise... Are they not going to release them until the day of the tournament?

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

I really hope if it says "no reserves" or "no outflanking" that someone shoots me a message saying "Don't bother coming down"
I'd hate to spend hundreds of dollars and 18+ hours of round trip driving to find out that my list broke.

Please?

You're fine. As said by Phazael, they seem pretty straight foward, and don't change the game drastically, which taking out infiltrate and outflank would.

If he's taking a drop pod list and they took out deepstrike, that would cause a lot of problems. By the sounds of it, it's a pretty gimmicky list. I don't mean that as an insult either.
