Again, depends on the brake fluid. I've had plastic minis soak in brake fluid for about 3 months with no ill effects beyond the glue holding them together going brittle. But that was one particular type of brake fluid... can't vouch for similar results from any other type.

It's sold in Australia, through Bunnings Warehouse (big hardware chain).

The Simple Green website lists a UK distributor, so somebody sells it...

On the Simple Green front... if you can find the lemon version, buy that instead. Doesn't work any better, but doesn't smell as bad

Just picked up a Russ at the FLGS. OK paint job, nice drybrushing, but unfinished. Just (at 3.30) dropped it in a tub of simple green. I'll edit this later with updates so people can see what an easy job that stuff makes of it.

Incidentally, the 'active ingredient' in Simple Green seems to be 2-butoxyethanol at less than 4%. Any cleaner with just that will probably have a similar effect.

The Russ I had in simple green isn't coming out to good. It'd had been heavily overpainted but I figured a depaint would fix that. Firstly though, instead of coming off in flakes like I'm used to with GW paints, this stuff turned to mush and had to be brushed/washed off fairly vigorously. I wonder if its enamels? Second, the bubbly surface it has turned out to be from a heavy overspray of primer, and whatever he used, it isn't shifting very well.

Massive amounts of primer and paint. I wonder if the previous owner was hoping for a better armor value.

So, if you have GW stuff or similar acrylics then Simple Green is quick and easy. If you bought something and have no clue how it was painted you may need to kick things up to something more toxic/plastic melting.

I second or third the dettol method, i've used it for the last six months now and have successfully stripped about 50 space marines and they worked a treat, they are also now 99.9% germ free and that's always good especially if your playing against nurgle!

TIP

If using something like Simple Green (yay environment) then do the following.

Find something that can be sealed air tight. I use a glass bottle that use to hold pasta sauce. Has a screw-on top.

Add da Green and minis.

Store in a warm area (important!!!!). A warm area can increase the stripping of paint by 100% or far, far more. Store in a cold place and it can take ages. This is why some people will have success and others fail. I stick my container near my heater air vents (the air isnt too hot, can put hand over it).

Once or twice a day, gently shake the container with your Green and mini's to unsettle the liquid sitting on your mini's body. This will allow fresh Green to get at the paint.

Use electric toothbrush to remove paint. Be gentle though as they can remove the top shiny layer of the mini, leaving a dull metal colour.
