Mn, in that case I agree. If you want stand-ins, you should proxy something of relatively equal size and shape.

There is a bit of good priced SoB stuff on Ebay too. Have you asked your lady what she wants to play? My GF wants to play Nids.. cause she is crazy like that

i think i'm going to go with the grey knights idea with space marines, drill a hole into their hands to make some sort of force staff, thou i need storm bolters and i also need some helmets i have tons of empire ones but dont think they look good with the feathers. any ideas on where to find these parts? Because Marines are not human, whereas Sisters are.
It'd be the same as using Eldar to represent Sisters. Or Tau.
If your following the fluff marine figures should be nearer terminator size not 'normal' human size. As it stands marine armour can be worn by any normal human sized person hence suggesting doing a head swap (isn't power armour still an option for some non marine characters?). Agreed it might not be allowed in a fully sanctioned GW tournament but not everyone is a tournament player.

How are you at using GS? Also if you are any good and Sculpy you could do that too.

You can also check eBay for Space Marine bits. Lots of bits dealers on there. I've used Hoard o' Bits many, many times. Just search for stormbolters, etc. and you'll probably find something. Bear in mind, if you get Assault on Black Reach marines/terminators, the terminators already have stormbolters...

You could also just use some GS to modify the lower half of the SM mask to look like the Knights visor.

i am also amazed that tyranids would be popular among girls.
i think i could convert helmets with GS, but def not detailed faces. The AOBR set comes with a ton of stuff but i don't really like the space marine models and still have them from my last buy lying around. i could use marine bodies and convert heads for them but i would need to find a suitable head swap, i was thinking fanasty elves if i went down that route but they may not be big enough and also may not be a big enough change for the marines to be seen as SoB.
grey knights i want to cut a hole into one of the marine's hand and then thread a rod through there to create their weapon with some sort of blade from either my many orc or empire extra parts or make a blade to glue on. i've seen people do this before, i think GW promotes it in their old hobbying articles but cant recall where. does anyone know what kind of rod i could use, or anyone who has done this and has any tips? it seems pretty simple but you never know.
i would then need stormbolters which i think i will be looking on ebay for once i get done with this horrid week of work, or maybe find a way to convert some. i could try to cut them off the AOBR termies, but then again i would only have 5 whereas i need tons.
Skarboy i have never heard of Hoard o' Bits thou i have heard of other sites (i'm assuming Hoard o' Bits is a bitz website) and i think i'll check them out as well as the one you mentioned to see if anythng comes from it.
thanks for all the feedback!

That is contrary to my personal experience. I know three women who play; one plays an infantry-heavy IG army and has an absolutely delightful "We Have Reserves" mindset on the tabletop. The other two are both interested in Eldar, but are both beginners and borrow my Tau and Ork armies to play.
One is interested in playing WH but I warned against it, due to all metal models and third-edition codex.

I just mentioned that mine wants to play nids. Out of the girls I know that play, 3 play Eldar/Tau, One play Ultramarines/Beasts of Chaos, and the last one plays Chaos which she has 3 different armies of. So.. I think girl players are like guy players... they like something and nab it.

I wasn't clear, but I was mostly responding to the allegations that girls are drawn instinctively to Sisters.

Cheap and Sisters of Battle really doesn't go together.
Look for some good deals on lots on Ebay or Bartertown.
If you can make it to Historicon they have some good deals on 40k stuff there.

Thats because we cant stand the self righteous attitude of most armies.
You'll never see girls playing space marines because LOL emperor's fan boys!
So Tyranids , Orks ( grots yay! ) , lizardmen are more common to us.

haha thanks for the imput on what armies girls play
i never really thought girls would be into space marines, most of the girls i know who play, play a mix of armies, but never seem to play any "popular" army, by that i mean armies which are very common at my gaming store, those tend to be space marines, IG, and nids. i see a ton of eldar, some orks, some chaos, and tau being played with among female players. but that is just from my experience.

Sweeping generalizations yaaaaaaay.
I know girls who love the "For the Emperor" attitude (the aforementioned lady I know who plays IG) and I know guys who are turned off by the same attitude (one guy I play with regularly makes fun of me for running Tau).
I'm pretty sure we can't really lump either gender into one of these groups quite so easily and expect to be correct.
