So his smoke bomb isnt the big ability ... and am I right in assuming that he is always inside the smoke bomb due to the center having to be 1inch away?

They changed it so that Gorman has to be in it.
It's not so bad, he's got Stealth and a boosted DEF when in the clouds.

The smoke is good if you need it (ie saving eGaspy 2 FoC so he doesn't need to make one cloud, keeping other medium based casters safe actually anything that can hide behind it...etc.

He is a toolbox solo, so everything he has got is useful at certain points and situations of the game.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

What is Gorman?

Anyway, I played my first game today. We had to do 28 points because that was all I could get purchased (not a lot of people have a huge selection). My list:

eGaspy

Nightwretch 4
Nightwretch 4
Cankerworm 5

6 Bane Knights 6
Bane Lord Tartarus 4
Withershadow Combine 5

Warwitch Siren 2
Pistol Wraith 3
Necrotech 1

It was against Cygnar. I saw the ridiculous power of Cankerworm in how hard he is to take down (he had two boxes left at the end and was still being a dick to everyone, one M and one H left). I saw that Pistol Wraith is mostly useless. Tartarus added 4 more Knights, so I can see it can be an insane unit with a ten-man head start. Here is my new proposed 35 and 50 points from this game:

eGaspy +6

Nightwretch 4
Cankerworm 5
Reaper 7

10 Bane Knights 10
Tartarus 4
Withershadow Combine 5

Warwitch Siren 2
Warwitch Siren 2
Necrotech 1
Necrotech 1

For 50, I'll add a Nightwretch and Deathjack and remove a Necrotech. Mostly because I don't want more focus to be used on 'Jacks, but I hear people snipe the crap out of Arc Nodes at 50 points. A Skarlock Thrall might be nice instead of the 2nd Siren just to power out one more non-Mist spell a turn though...

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

Gorman, as in Gorman DiWulf a Merc that can work for cryx that brings smoke bombs and various other game changing bombs.

-Details? It may just be that you didn't use it well, or that you didn't like it to begin with.
It doesn't mean it's useless...pistol wraiths may be a bit pricey but they are amazing shots (+ the utility when hitting twice) in an army devoid of a mainline shooting unit without factoring mercs.

The spells that a skarlock casts are not that great w/ eGaspy...as it means it needs to be essentially exposed and it can't do what it does best: cycling buffs.

I'm not sure you'll get too much out of the Reaper, I don't think eGaspy can really afford dumping 2-3 focus for it to do its job (very nice soul reaping/death knells aside).

Well, the Pistol Wraith seemed to always have 8s to hit. I was trying to hit a warjack to get a feel for the chill ability. While nice for sniping a solo (he would get one shot off), it was pretty rare for him to score three shots in a row. Maybe I'll keep him in and test him more.

Reaper just seems like it will be fun. I can power him one focus per turn with the siren, then maybe just toss one more onto him from my warcaster. If I can pull something in, beat it once or twice then let my combine charge in it will most likely be a new jack for me. Especially if I can put a Parasite onto it beforehand.

I have the model now for the Pistol Wraith and truly hate the Skarlock model, so maybe I will give him a few more goes before I shelf him. I really look forward to painting him actually, inspired by many people's 'fading in' scheme on him where he is half ghost, half corporeal.

Still not completely sold on the 10-man Bane Knights though. They are absolutely slowed on the charge, but really I doubt I will be getting more than six and tartarus into combat with a warcaster on my feat turn. Better off bringing back utility guys that got picked off too. Again, this all comes down to testing and I want to buy some more Knights anyway simply because I will be creating a few from Tartarus and Excarnate.

It was a fun game, but my friend was very disappointed. I ended up losing zero models against a Cygnar shooting list thanks to good Mist placement, but he says that every new WM player should get absolutely destroyed in their first game. I found a club that hosts a WM night, so I will try and play some serious vets later this week.

Well...what jacks were involved?
I mean...Slayers are DEF 13...which means needing 6's on 2D6 which really isn't so bad.

If you have the FoC, you can pop off 2 shots at rank and file and kill 1 or 2, then use eGaspy to hide him behind or in a cloud (depending on if the opponent ignores one or the other), then you can boost afterwards.

Reaper: fun = good reason. I just don't want the focus issue to ruin it.
Don't forget, the siren can't put a focus onto the Reaper if the warcaster allocates any to the reaper...it's one or the other I'm afraid.

Bane Knights. Well, Spectral Legion is not just about caster kill.

eGaspy is a really good caster...provided you can protect him from ranged threats (ones who can ignore cloud effects) and that you don't get too close to the enemy.
