How good is your luck?
Good, I tend to pass important saves, etc.
Hmm, not bad, not too good though.
Terrible! If there's a 1 to roll, I'll roll it!

Not my moments, but my mates.
He was introducing me to 40k last year, he playing Space Wolves, our other friend Tyranids and myself Eldar.
Long story short, his Heavy Weapons Team fired everything they had at my Wave Serpent at point-blank.
Rolled 1's on all hit rolls but the missile launcher, which scattered away! We decided his Wolves were under the influence of a pre-battle drink

Later that same match, the Tyranid player explodes the Space Wolves Vindicator. House rules, the explosion sends the ruined Vindicator flying and crushes the Tyranid's Genestealers, failing all saves.

Great introduction to the game!

Wow, 40k is obviously quite an unlucky game...! Today, I just unloaded a stompa's entire supa-rokkit payload into the back of a Rev titan... All hit... all penetrate... titan holofields do their work... gun crew shaken.

I had a quite simple WTF?! moment during one of my first games. It was with the AOBR forces and, after a bad deep strike scatter and with nothing more beefy in range, i decided to charge my terminators at his boyz. Bad idea. My sergeant struck first, had 1 hit and didn't wound. Next were the boys their attacks: 7 hit and 5 wounded. Then i rolled for armour save: five 1's! I lost my entire Terminator squad in half a round of combat at the hand of ork boyz for crying out loud! Needless to say, i lost the battle.

I was being attacked by a 10 man devostator squad with 5 lascannons. Lysander survivded the lascannons without a wound but the just in range boltguns caused me to roll a quadruple 1. Why do the dice gods hate me? Thats when i started making model sacrifices to the Gods

Its called sarcasm. Really what does it taste like?

Yeah, rolling to hit can be odd... Strange how it's just as difficult for a Leman Russ turret gunner to hit a Warlord Titan from 1" as it is to hit a grot from 72!

Oh, to clarify about the Captain thing, there was a bit of bad terrain as well as exploding pistols! Even so, no enemy contact suffered!

Whenever I deep strike anything, I lose it.

No exceptions.

As a result I am deathly afraid of deep striking and keep nothing in reserve.

Why the hell don't Tau have drop pods?

I assaulted a wave serpent with 7 melta bombs, it had spirit stone so I could only roll I dice, all I needed to do was get a 2 for a glancing hit should have been good as dead right? I rolled 6 1's and one 2 then a 1 on damage chart. My friend and I laughed for like 5 minutes and went back to the game

However, sometimes I get a little suspicious about my opponents at our FLGS. They are very protective about their dice, and refuse to let anyone else use them, even if it's for a passing roll or if you've forgotten yours. That and the fact that they roll pretty decently with them makes me a sad panda.

Honestly, being over protective of dice is probably due to the superstitious nature of gamers with their dice. Not to mention if you use them the luck will "wear off." Its all silly as far as I am concerned, but its just part of the hobby

I refuse to let anyone else use my dice, but that's because I pre-rolled all the 1s out of them.

Here's what you do. Get a couple thousand dice. Roll them all. Take out the ones that roll anything but a 1. Roll the ones that just rolled a 1 again. Take out the ones that roll anything but a 1. Now you have a hundred or so dice that have just rolled two 1s in a row. These dice are statistically unlikely to roll another 1. They've been pre-rolled.

And before anyone says anything, yes, I'm aware that's not how statistics works, but it's fun and it makes me feel more confident.

BUT NOW the dred attacks with DCCW AND kills no orks.... my command squad power weapons KILL none. Attack with my PF and get all hits then out of 5 hits roll to wound 2+ I KILLL no orks.... i got 5 1.... no joke so he turns power claws my command squad take 8 wounds no armor rishk 4 on company commander with 4 save all failed.. and there goes my command squad... i cried a little inside... dont want to talk about that combat ever agian... still won the game though! veryyy close one.

These are great!

Probably my worst roll was when i had turbo boosted my deffkoptas on the last turn to contest the objectives, with this i was going for a tie beacuse then i would win by having more points. koptas turbo boosted, guard platoons fired lots and lots of las gun fire, only 3 hits, 3 wound, in need 3s or higher and what do i roll? all 1s...it really bugged me that my deffkopta had all its wounds too...

heres the battle report if any one cares. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/283389.page

I usually roll pretty well in games, my terminators are very long lived generally, especially when they are backed up with FNP as well.

However, I did manage to lose 2 TH/SS terminators to the final two members of a IG vet squad. They made 3 attacks, wounded with 2, and of course, I roll snake-eyes for my saves... before the THs could even attack.

My opponent was happy to say the least.

You are right thats not how statistics work, but if youre using anything but square edged dice, e.g crap like chessex etc, your dice dont roll statistically, as theyre put through rock tumblers and polishers destroying their vertices, so they dont roll anything approaching statistically.

So your method actually can remove dice that are more likely to roll poorly.

As to the poll, I roll about average, however, I think the scatter dice gods love me, and my unswavering faith in the basilisk thoughout two editions has been rewarded by an ability to actually make the notoriously fickle Fantasy Helstorm Rocket battery hit things!

I usually have about five or six above average games in a row untill that one game comes along and the dice gods start paying attention again. They then proceed to dump a load of failed LD tests on me.

First turn of Planetstrike, Daemons vs. IG, I'm the attacker. My Lord of Change and Keeper of Secrets land near his main "base" (see: parking lot) and fall out of assault range of anything by an inch or so. His penal legion squad (80 pts) flanks on to the board and takes aim at the Lord of Change. Dead. Some Grey knights pop out from somewhere and assault the Keeper. I miss every attack (all 1's and one 2). He gets slaughtered. Worst first turn ever >_<

He doesnt need to specifically mention 6 sided dice, all non square edged commercially manufactured dice are made in that process, if you think a die having less faces will prevent the edges and vertices from being destroyed any different thats pretty amusing.

The point remains with crappy chessex like dice, if you sit there long enough and roll enough you can remove those dice which are going to roll lower than average, thanks to their edges being unevenly grinded off. If a thousandth of an inch will let a guy make bank cheating at craps, think what these 1/10th of an inch inconsistencies do.
