Very nice! In fact, I can draw some inspiration and technique from this for the Dark Eldar I plan to start around Christmas Time. (No, I'm not jumping on the Bandwagon, I've been waiting for the Update since I came into the Hobby, and have always wanted to play Evil Pixies. )

Any chance of a 'Step-by-Step' with Pictures on a Basic Warrior?

Sure, it is very simple though so for now I'll just post a snapshot of the current state of the reaper crewmen (can do a proper step-by-step on the next 20 corsairs):

1. Basecoat all metal parts with chainmail
2. Paint bling with shining gold
3. Paint inner robes/clothing with hawk turquoise
4. Paint face/skulls with dheneb stone
5. Paint leather gloves/boots/robes/whatever with scorched brown
6. Touchup black areas with chaos black, and run over any mistakes
7. Wash with devlan mud
8. ??????????
9. Success!

When I want to take the army to the next level I'll add a highlight with the original color, until then I just keep the colors tidy, bases uniform and make the units 'pop' with banner freehands (later, I promise)

Going to watch Freddy got Fingered (not a dirty movie afaik) and finish the RBT now

Peace out.

Aha, afaik!

Seriously, though, cheers a bunch. I might use the exact same scheme when I come to do Dark Eldar, would you mind?

Not at all, I stole the scheme a few years ago from a bunch of zombie pirates at the local GW, so no copyright infringement

Sorry for the lack of updates in the past couple of days, but I haven't been completely idle on the hobby side at all. I finished (alright, except for xbowmen shields) a good chunk of the force, now ready to hit the table:

I also got in my first game of 8th edition last night, playing against wood elves roughly consisting of

1*Lvl 4 mage
1*BSB /w Hail of Doom
4*10 glade guards
2*8 dryads
2*5 scouts
5*Glade riders
1*Treeman
1*Great Eagle

Vs.

1*High sorceress with Seal of Ghrond
28*Spearmen
2*14 Crossbowmen
5*cold one knights
20*corsairs
2*Reaper bolt throwers
5*shades with an assassin

My shades (including the assasin) were shot to pieces the first turn, thus leaving two units of glade guard free to pour 20 shots a turn into my corsairs, dwindling them down. My other big block of troops, the spearmen were pretty much ignored by my opponent, figuring that if he could get rid of my shooting (which he did) he'd have a much easier time handling the block troops. I kinda missed having something fast in the army like dark riders or harpies, but then again the black guard or the hydra are quite a solid... Oh too many choices.

Anyway, on the modelling front I've been assembling these:

I assembled five of the models from the first units wearing helmets and using the hooks, harpoons and katars. Then i left the 'nobles' on the cold ones with bare heads, freeing up those helmeted heads. And now I got two distinct different units of corsairs, one with bareheads/facemasks, another with uniform helmets.

That'll be all for now since I'm working on the deathwing commission as well, but i'll assemble the remaining 5 corsairs for the first unit now so I can do the bases and spray the unit first thing tomorrow.

Peace out.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
*Late night 'update'*

I was tinkering around with a 2250 list using the models I've purchased and came up with this:

Army list:

1*Supreme Sorceress /w Black staff and Seal of Ghrond: 310

1*Battle Standard Bearer /w Heavy Armour, Sea Dragon Cloak, Hydra Banner, Cold One: 208

28*Spearmen /w Shields+Full Command: 211

20*Corsairs /w Full Command: 225

20*Corsairs /w Full Command: 225

14*Repeater Crossbowmen /w Musician: 145

14*Repeater Crossbowmen /w Musician: 145

1*Assasin /w Rending Stars, Rune of Khaine and Black Lotus: 165

5*Shades /w Bloodshade: 98

9*Cold One Knights /w Full Command and Standard of Slaughter: 318

2*Reaper Bolt Throwers: 200

Total: 2250 (sharp)

What's your thoughts on the magic items/banners setup? The Sorceress will join the spearmen, forming the anvil along with the two blocks of corsairs. The knights with BSB will then act as the hammer, ripping stuff apart. I'm a rookie, share your wisdom, enlighten me.

Also regarding the deadline: I now have one week left to finish the remaining 25 models, so it seems i might actually make it (y)

Peace out.

My my my, this one has fared like every one of my other blogs... Not due to lack of commitment to the models, but the 'photographing, uploading and writing entries'-part has been forsaken due to other real life projects such as school, music and marijuana-detox - But I announce this blog re-opened (with pics later today).

What has happened since the last update you ask? Well, first of all, i reached the goal, i built and painted 2250 points of dark elves in those thirty days, only focusing on 'core troops' (all the boring stuff). I have also finished the deathwing commission, and my honour and debt in the FLGS has been restored. I've finished another character, a unit of 20 black guard, made a proper step-by-step painting tutorial for the corsairs, and last but not least: my own version of the Cauldron of Blood (made from a skaven screaming bell and a forgeworld avatar, it might have been costy but it is a worthy centrepiece for the army. I just finished cleaning, assembling and basing the last few knights, and when those are done the army will be 3000+ points.

Currently the army is located in a display case at the FLGS to which I will be venturing today with my camera to: a) take pictures and b)purchase a deathhag from avatars of war (and order her 'Bitches' from the dark eldar range) as well as magnets for the entire armys bases+movement trays.

This'll do for now, expect pictures of 140 fully painted based models in the near future.

Until then, peace out.

Here is the update i promised, with crappy quality pictures. it won't be pretty wordy though since I'm 'shouldn't be allowed to post'-drunk.

Added shields to the crossbowmen (still missing 4 on the second unit):

My black guard, the emtals has been washed with asurmen blue and then badab black, but horrible lighting kills nuances:

The best of the pics I got of my cauldron:

And finally a full army shot:

I hope you like it, please add your c&c.

Not to mention incredibly expensive (I still need to buy the crew)

Thanks a lot for the comments, I'll venture outside now with the remaining knights and a spray can, go figure.

Peace out.
