Weirdly my favourite gold I did years ago on a techmarine, put some burnished over a red base will try to find it if it's still around and upload a pic though it's a very old model so the paintings not great on it :(

Thanks Most of the IW armies that I have seen are a bit short on the hazard striping, and as much of a pain as they are to paint I think they are what sets this legion apart from all the others. That is why I decided to add a bit more than the standard one leg. I do think its funny though, I believe I read in someones sig on here something to the effect of "The Iron Warriors are one of the most feared seige legions in all of chaos, and they use caution stripes on all of their armor and vehicles..." which makes me laugh. Thanks everyone for the complements and critiques so far, I am gonna experament with some different color options for my termies tonight, ill post some WIP pics this evening.

Oh, and if you ever need practice with freehanding straight lines and chevrons, just make an IW army, you will either get good at it quickly, bash your head on the table in frustration, or go Black Legion...

Heh, that's the truth, although the first two tend to happen together.

Ok, so I got my base color down for the ancient iron look, and so far I think its the perfect color, just gonna add some highlights after everything is painted up and it should come out looking good.

Let me know what you think, apologies for the poor lighting in the pic, the lighting in my dining room sucks...

Ok, here is what the first termie is looking like so far, gonna finish him up in the morning, with a little clean up work, but I think the "seasoned" look is deffinately a success:

Looks really good. I have been doing IW for about 3 years now and i still can't get my chevrons looking as tidy as yours. maybe i'm just a nervous painter. lol.

What mix did you end up using for the Termie armour?

I used a mix of bolter silver and burnished gold, about 70% silver and 30% gold for the base coat. After all the detail I did a mud wash, then a brushing with straight boltgun silver to add a little highlight. I found that the easyest way for me to do the chevrons is to base coat black, start the chevrons in the yellow, the go back with the black to straighten them up. My first run of yellow can look pretty messy until I straighten them up with a little more black. I also do them as the second step of my painting after the base coat, so that I dont have to worry about staying in the lines so to speak because the detail work will cover any over paint.

Well here is my first adventure with GS...

I present my Dread, impaling a chaos marine on his CCW, the lascannon isnt complete yet, and neither are the marines hands, gonna be adding some hoses and such, but I am pleased with how he looks so far, and he should look a lot better once painted. C&C is always welcome

Is that a Predator turret you're using for the lascannon arm? Looks huge and armoured and......iron warrior-sy.

Nice!

It is the front part of the turrett placed on the arm that normally holds the block of bolters on the ironclad dread. I am glad it looks huge because the CCW arm had to be extended over an inch, which kinda evens it out a bit. Thanks for the complement

Well here he is, I tried to make him look dark and dirty, as you probobly wouldnt want to get close enough to clean him, and I dont recall hearing of any spare water hoses in the warp... hope you like and C&C is always welcome!

I like how the dread seems disinterested in the chaos marine stuck on his chainfist.

Yeah lol I kinda tried to pose him like he was leaning in a way to where he was ort of in that direction, but without a head of sorts it does give that perception. Since I left his arms moveable I actually kind of like it better with that arm down a bit and the lascannon arm up, kinda lke he will deal with that "stuck marine" issue later lol.

I figure I would post some whole army pics since it has grown quite a bit since the last one. I also took some close ups of one painted Obliterator. And BTW!!! if I ever meet the person who designed the new obliterator model I am going to kick him square in the nuts... I will never assymble one again.

Agreed on the obliterators, they're even worse than the old metal chaos terminators!!

Also: That captured Rhino looks incredible

Yeah. I have 3 'Blitz and they took longer to buidl than they did to paint. I keep praygin for a surprise release of a plastic kit but for the time being it is easier and cheaper to convert Termies apparently (it's on my list of things to do)

So a little bit of self thread necromancy here, but been doin a bit of painting and decided to post up my most recent completions, and some action reports!

First the action reports in a generalized form as this is the P&M forum:

Me vs. SM 2k points

Game ends in draw but notable events:

My WS and 1 group of Zerkers demolish his command squad and one regular space marine squad before they are down to only the skull champ remaining from his silly land raider that was immobilized by rough terrain in turn 2

I had a full squad of zerkers contesting his objective at end game, meaning a rhino (yes a rhino) survived a full flanking move

My Dread managed to kill 2 5 man tac teams in close combat before becoming immobilized and with 2 CCW, useless

My termies punched a hole through 2 of his vindies after deep striking on his flanks, and werent able to make it to the objective before game ended in turn 5

If we had included kill points it would have been a win, but I am there to have fun more than anything

Game 2:

Me vs. BA undefeated tourny army

Notable events:

I got my ass handed to me, but killed some stuff

Anyway on with the pictures!

Thats the product of finding 10 small framing nails and a metal coat hanger lol was a super easy conversion, and for the most part I think it looks a lot better than a standard heavy bolter. Thanks for the compliments
