I know there are creatures between the galaxies. Dark Heresy makes mention of "Void Whales" as well as a few other books.

Indeed. Though it would be interesting to see if the eye of terror and other tears into the warp are only in the milky way. Maybe that is why the chaos gods seem so focused upon the milky way. If they conquer that they can range out to despoil pristine galaxies!

Ooo, that's not a bad idea for a new campaign there Lexx, I might have to rip that idea off one day!
That being said, the Galaxy is pretty big already, do we really need stuff to come from outside to spice things up more. I mean, you can look at the maps of the galaxy in the codex books and see that it looks quite small, but there's a hell of a lot of space between the planets that they identify!

The Warp might not actually extend beyond the galaxy because tyranids dont travel through the Warp. They use gravity to pull them towards their prey so travel to other galaxys might not be possible (for every race that uses Warp travel, anyway). The webway might extend beyond the galaxy, though.
I dont think GW will expand the 40k universe, though. We'll just have to stick to wrecking this galaxy. Bit of a shame.

Noticed something odd said back there about there being no emotion outside of the Milky Way, and so the Warp can't go beyond it. How do you reckon that? If there are sentient species outside of our galaxy, it's logical to assume they feel emotion.

Im assuming they just meant that in the huge empty chunks of space without sentient life there wouldnt really be much emotion contributing to the warps flow, after they reach another galaxy, it goes back to "usual" if that can even be said about the warp.
Also it doesnt make much tactical sense to move to another galaxy, there are enough wars, rebellions and raids to keep the imperium busy and all the other races are carrying out those raids, wars and rebellions

Fair enough then, I guess.
As to tactical sense, gotta agree there, the Imperium's got enough on it's plate already without provoking more fights outside it's sphere of influence.
