My brother tag teams his mawloc with a trygon, or with another mawloc....as well as outflanking stealers plus the ymgarl..and DS podded zoanthropes..and either an outflanking large hormogaunt unit or even a troop tervigon (his HT has hive commander)....

The idea is to swamp the enemy by turn 2 and 3..with several units....he does very well against marines with a high victory rate...

BTW if the mawloc survives the round of return shooting, it may be better to burrow it again....it's power lies in the s6 ap2 pie plate...

with 2 mawlocs, if you do suceed in destroying a transport, and they spill out and are not in a crater, a second mawloc which DS on top of them makes a great punch...

If you have first turn you can actually burrow the mawloc immediately, and it emerges automatically the next turn....repeat and rinse...mawlocs are also good to push units towards your outflanking/emerging units which can assault...

I did have a mawlock in the game and I did what you sugested, but it scattered horibly of target. The closest tanks moved away from it and I ran after. Then he just drover towards me, jumped out of the tanks and melta'ed/lasered/charged it to death. By that points i did not realy have many units left, and I only had very little synapse. It is a good plan when it works but in a given game you only get around 2 shots with it witch I think is a bit to little for the cost. And yeah he is 6 wounds and T6 but he just does not pack a punch in close combat.

Perhaps if I took two of them, but I am not that impressed with there performance.

Some people sugest a trevigon instead of warriors, but it costs so mutch. And it rarly does anything. (But I know I am not using it right.) Moast of the time walks up the board casting feel no pain but he is always out of range for his shooting attacks. Warriors seems to give you more bodies and wounds for the point cost and can do something. Yes it spawns termigaunts but i have yet to get a good shoting out of them. (They just sit around being meched down.)

I find tervigon more effective for warriors for a couple of reasons, they can't be insta-gibbed by all the str 8 running around, they can munch vehicles reasonably well (4 str6 +2d6 on the charge) and most importantly they can provide a screen for your army.

Think of it this was, a tervi can reliably project assaults 18" (6" spawn radius+6"move+6" charge) forward. If your faster then your opponent you can tie down his units with a gant charge beofre anything else gets in range. This negates the need to frag grenades). Against a faster opponent, like dark eldar, pop a screen of gants if you think your going to get charged. Let the gants eat the charge instead of your real units. You can also use the gants to tarpit deathstars.

Warriors on the other hand...they don't have the stamina to stand up to most dedicated assault units(who generally have some form of str8 hanging around). And they aren't shooty enough to justify their points cost.

Tervigons can be encreadable, especialy in smaller games. Just give it every upgrade it can get and suck up the 315pt cost, you'll be suprised how worth it, it can be.
And remember they keep pooping Gaunts even if locked in CC.

Sorry I took so long with this, stuff came up.

Anyway here are 2 posible ideas the fist one is a larger points value then you've been playing but a good example of a 'Nid can opener.

1 Tervigon @ 310 pts (Bonded Exoskeleton; Claws & Teeth; Stinger Salvo; Synapse Creature; Brood Progenitor; Psyker; Shadow in the Warp; Spawn Termagants; Crushing Claws; Acid Blood; Adrenal Glands; Implant Attack; Regeneration; Toxic Miasma; Toxin Sacs; Dominion; Catalyst; Onslaught)

3 Hive Guard Brood @ 150 pts (Claws & Teeth; Hardened Carapace; Impaler Cannon; Instinctive Behaviour - Lurk)

8 Tyranid Warrior Brood @ 455 pts (Hardened Carapace; Synapse Creature; Shadow in the Warp; Rending Claws; Deathspitter; Adrenal Glands; Toxin Sacs)

And the second is more the points you wanted, it's a good can opener that can still nom infintry with ease,

1 Tyranid Prime @ 120 pts (Bonded Exoskeleton; Synapse Creature; Alpha Warrior; Independent Character; Shadow in the Warp; Boneswords (x2); Rending Claws; Adrenal Glands; Regeneration; Toxin Sacs)

The eye of terror.

Drop the regen and toxin sacks from your t-fexes, they're already expensive and durable before you start adding more expense to them. Also... a 2005 point list won't fly. Many places play 2k, and over points is a no-no, even by a little bit.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

Depends on where you play. You SHOULD try to keep it 2000 or less but if you come up with a list in five minutes and want to play test it and trim the fat later most people will let it fly.

Yeah My mawloc scattered right off a Terminator squad, and onto a devestator squad, got lucky, but still my Mawloc got cut down before it could do it again.

So far Spod Carnifex or Spod Zoans work decently, but the range and librarian hoods make it a bit tedious. Carnifex has my vote for can opener award.

Well, as a blood angels player, I'll have to say hive guards are a pain, plasmafexes are annoying too, tervigons definitely are a must, 2 for HQ, W for troops with 2 units of termagaunts for troops, a unit of genestealers, a unit of zoanthropes, 2 carnifexes woth plasma, and a trygon prime.

Genestealers are effective in CC, and rival bloodletters and assault marines in CC.

Gaunts are always disposable cannon fodder, don't forget that, you can always make more if you need them.

Zoanthropes have a s8 ap1 lance psyker ability, so, I like them, they're anti-tank weapons.

Hive guards are similar to zoanthropes, since they've got nasty weapons too.

Gentlemen... it's a year old thread....

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!
