I have found that ghouls are the only way to go. Well, other than worrying about the breaking point mission!

For ard boyz, a 3000 point tournie, I ran 2x46 units of ghouls. One unit had the regen banner, both were horde units with lots of characters for support. I never bothered to grow them larger than 46, so I didnt need to get any summoning powers. My other units in the army were support units like bats and black knights and wraiths for moving around fast and threatening warmachines and flanks.

While grave guard are good, I dont think they are better than ghouls with character support. Sure grave guard hit hard, but you get more ghouls, ghouls get more attacks, and have poison, PLUS strike at init 3, which in this edition actually makes a big difference!

But surely you can get more zombies, so more attacks

You value power, ambition, and darkness. You love power at any cost, and are a corrupting influence on those around you. At your best, you are resourceful and unashamed. At your worst, you are parasitic and amoral. Your symbol is a skull. Your enemies are white and green

I think even at their low points cost, zombies are probably still over priced in 8th. You can have tons of zombie attacks, and it still probably isn't going to amount to much. Better to put the points elsewhere.

Raising them as road blocks and diverters, on the other hand, might have some potential.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

VC core is really rather sub-par, you're better off taking the minimum.

Mayby if I used the zombies as a cheap meatshield to get my more advanved units into combat it would work

Thats what rising zombies is for, not to mention units of risen zombies give up very few VPs.

No, take Manfred, magic is really important and he kicks ass at it, also take a corpse cart with the bound spell. Bound spells help in fantasy allot.

you don't have to go for tons of zombies, they're basically useless so it's really better to just focus on other things.

Game I saw recently a guy had like a shallow horde of gravegaurd shallow horde of skellies and one more shallow horde of skellies with two corpsecarts and some supervamps, grand total model count like 105 or something, plus backup skellies for incresing unit size and a few zombies to bring up as distractions and for cover.
