Why?

Forgetting that, SMs don't use tanks to hunt tanks. They play rock, paper and scissors. Tank v tank is wasteful. They use Devastators, Melta Bombs and Power Fists to take out armour.

Tanks are used as rapid infantry support.

The rules are a bit odd and it woudn't exist in fluff.

A Predator takes 1-3 lascannons on an AV13/12/10 chassis, a Vindicator takes a S10 AP1 large blast and a Godhammer mounts TL Lascannons.

The Bison would take 0.38 lascannons on an AV10 open-topped chassis...

Dreadnoughts are not tanks, they fill a different roll. Vindicators are siege tanks, bastion breakers, horde killers. Lascannon Predators are light transport/heavy infantry poppers. Godhammer Land Raiders are jack-of-all-trades heavy troop transports. And Terminus Ultra pattern Land Raiders are Titan hunters.

Not one of them is a lightweight, short-range and, above all, punily armed tank hunter covered with camo netting...

They used to have a tank hunter, I converted one back in the day, the rules are from 1989 white dwarf. It only had an auto cannon, but that was the basic tank canon at the time.

You could just make it a non transport rhino with a battle cannon with ap shells now.

Not sure why people keep making this a template weapon. If the idea is a tank hunter it should be for focused fire. Honestly a razorback with twin linked las cannons works wonders as anti tank now...no? Still like the silhouette of the saber though, especially with how targeting rules work.

I think just give the vindi the option to take a vanquisher cannon, not sure what the points would be.

For comparison:

Battle cannon: 72" S8 AP 3 Ordinance

Vanquisher: 96" S8 AP 3 Ordinance
May fire AT shell, trades the blast template for 2d6 armor penetration, uses BS to hit

Laser destroyer: 72" S10 AP 2, counts as Ordinance for armor penetration and such but doesn't use a blast template, uses BS to hit

Turbo laser: 12-72", S9 AP 2 Heavy/1 Blast, can be multi-barreled to become heavy/2, heavy/3, etc, with extra blast templates counting as barrage.

A turbo laser is a STR D ap2 apocalypse weapon used on battle titans
