I think the dark eldar will work for anyone who will pay them with land and slaves.

They don't fight for territory.

Not all Dark Eldar are living in the webway, many become pirates, and mercenaries, living on their ships. They would be a lot easier to use and more willing to make a deal (it's a lot easier to take slaves for a quick fight than to raid ships, which could be well defended).

DE will ally with humans, in exchange for slaves. It's usually a bad idea for the humans but there are times when it's the only choice.

Eldar and Dark eldar don't really hate each other (the DE pity the craftworlders for denying themselves experiences and the craftworld eldar think the DE are weak for loosing control), they are both the same species and are dying out so they would much rather they won than any lesser species.

They could fight along side Orks, by manipulating them to fight to reduce the number of eldar deaths.

Most unlikely would be chaos (most eldar are scared and hate chaos), Tyranids (obviously), SM (very rarely ally with aliens, sometimes work with craftworld eldar but they have very opposite aims to DE) and Tau (they would be the least likely to hand over slaves).

According to the new DE dex an isolated Tau sept allied with a Haemonculi in order to fend off a Tyranid tendril; at first the Haemonculi wanted 77(?) tau in exchange for helping, in turn they became grotesques and fought off the bugs. Following this the Haemonculi demanded either 7 ethereals or 7,777 other tau (?), having just seen what the Haemonculi did to the original tau they refused. By the time reinforcements arrived from a nearby sept the entire settlement had vanished

I like that they are keeping the naivety of the tau alive in other codices, it's their most endearing aspect. Now I eagerly anticipate Necron Party 2: Electric Boogaloo, in the new cron dex.

Actually as a long time eldar player ill tell you its nothing like chaos and loyalists joining forces. Eldar and dark eldar are an alien race and are vastly differet from humanity. The Astartes were split by a great betrayal, one actively seeking to wipe out the other. Eldar were split because of the birth of slaanesh leading to many different lifstyle choices (Craftworld, exodite, dark eldar)...

I personally think DE would side with CSM mainly a slaaneshy god themed army, I understand that they hate (or fear of losing they're souls to) slaanesh but the possibility is sound the both love the pleasantries and experiences brought by what the do whether its ripping some one apart with there hands or blades or making who they are fighting, bending, breaking and enslaving, course DE would always have to further they're own goals in some way so betrayal is not crazy to expect, no matter what faction they side with.

I think betrayal with Dark Eldar is customary, even if they like the other faction.

Dark Eldar will ally with anyone if they think it'll benefit them.

They'll likey turn on you afterwards, of course, but in the mean time, they'll be your best friends...

There are no good races in 40k, there are races capable of allying and therefore possible as allies and then there are races impossible to ally with (unless you're the blood angels OH YEAH!!).

So Orks, humans, naughty humans, space elfs, naughty space elfs, manga fish people, super humans and naughty super humans can all understand the benefits of allying and are capable of allying. If we look at naughty space elfs, they would most likely ally with those who share their ancestry (space elfs) or hobbies and interests (Orks, naughty humans, naughty superhumans).

Giant space locusts and glum space robots with lego guns don't have interests other than wiping out everyone else, so they don't get to ally with anyone (unless they're the blood angels OH YEAH!!!).

Of the fluff I've read in the codex so far, the naughty space elfs do ally with the tau briefly and the tau learn a very nasty lesson about this. It's very unlikely they'd ally again (and foreign exchange students are right out the window...). Also there is an alliance between orks and naughty space elfs, which works very well until the common foe is overcome and the inevitable happens...
