Also, Spartan has some painted minis up now. See the links I posted a few days ago.

"It is an honor that I dream not of."

Yup, I love the links. They keep me pretty happy and excited about miniatures these days.

Still, Super Dungeon is the best.

Hi

The rules arent the exact same as the other games.

The share a lot in common with them, much the same as Warhammer and 40k share the same basic d6 rules, but there are differences for Dystopian Wars and I think it far surpasses their previous two games.

Here is a link to a review I wrote for those of you interested in the game, I also have pictures of the contents of the Battlegroups for the Prussians and Britannians, as well as upcoming posts with their Carrier packs.

This game looks extremely interesting. Though I am assuming it is going to encompass sea, air and land based combat?

The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against the inevitable. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the darkness comes for you.

Yes it will be incorporating all 3 types.

No land models out from Spartan yet so havent tested out the Ground combat interaction, but the Range bands do mean you could have artillery on the land trading blows with fleets at sea.

The starter battlegroups contain mostly Naval with a bit of Air Support so it gives some basic interaction.

Will be good to see how it works when you can do Ground vs Naval, Naval vs Air games.

For comparison:

And Spartan's page:

See, I think I'd prefer to play Leviathan as well. And - as Manchu knows - I absolutely LOVE Spartan's other games.

I can even understand the look of Dystopian Wars, with the advanced technology... they kind explain it. http://www.spartangames.co.uk/dystopian_wars.html

And having land battles AND air/sea battles is cool. But I'm just not wild about any of the forces. Prussia's okay I guess.

AMEN. This is SO damn true. In fact, I may sig this.

Agreed on both. Leviathans looks awesome if they can deliver the minis. Would be great if they were similar to Firestorm Armada size. Im not so excited about the Dystopian aesthetics. I never got into the steampunk/Wild Wild West kinda thing.

The Leviathans reminds me of Star Blazers but in atmosphere not space.

Ah, the danger of the 'read new posts' function...

Thanks though!

Have to agree with Mad4Minis - I'm mainly excited about this stuff because it is actually getting released!

Speaking of which, anyone have any update on Leviathans at all?

Uh oh.

Just read the review and the "Exploding d6" mechanic.

Do not like. (Didn't like it in Rackham's games either.)

And now, do not want.

Leviathans, where are you?!?

After reading the blog site for Leviathans Im kinda worried about one thing...cost. They talk about delays in product development due to high levels of content for the box set, detail and size of the minis, etc. Every time they mentioned something else all I heard was a cash register "cha-ching, cha-ching". Although seeing that level of work and detail going into a product is always nice, in this day and age it also means a huge jump in price.

If they can keep the price under control, say less than $100 Ill likely go for it. They start getting to $150 or more then Ill just have to pass.

I think they'd have to realize that anything north of that 'magic' $99 is going to be deadly for them...

out of curiosity alpharius, why dont you like this? it give the lowliest ship the chance to stay in the game.
theres nothing worse than having useless models floating around.

I hope so, because you are very right. Even if they had to break it up and release a $99 main box set and a $25 expansion at the same time. Though many people would likely buy both at the same time, seeing a price over $100 tends to cause a bit of a shock and causes second thoughts.

Extremely well established companies like GW can pull off huge price box sets, smaller companies introducing new games should be very careful with pricing.

All that being said Im still looking forward to seeing more on Leviathans.

I wish the Dystopian Wars folks well too, decent minis but just not grabbing me.
