Lysander, Wazdakka, random space wolf from wolf guard background that was stepped on by a titan, legion of the damned, chaos fellows in dark apostle(correct book?).

Yep,that was Kol Badar, and don't forget Forrix from Storm of Iron, he took down a titan single handedly with just his PF and combi bolter. Although it was only a warhound...

Forrix had help. By the time he got to the titan, its voidshields were down and its movement was impaired to the point that he could just walk right up and climb on its leg.

Forrix watched the beast stagger as a shell from a vindicator burst against its leg. The Warhound lurched, its weapon mount shearing off as it slammed into a ruined building. They had it now, backed into a corner and stripped of its protection.-Storm of Iron, pg 393

More gunfire hammered the armored carapace of the Warhound, its legs buckling under the weight of fire. The pilot compartment swung low to the ground...

...Forrix clambered onto the massive foot and hammered his powerfist into the ankle joint of the warhound titan again and again.

So he kill-stole the titan? Did the other fellows get an asisst?
But in all fairness killing a titan is killing a titan whether you're a tank a genetically engineered super human (some would say with daddy issues) or another titan what you have just killed is several thousand tonnes of giant robot with associated guns in essence it's still pretty good on your CV.

Ian Watson's Space Marine also has some Imperial Fist scouts break into a Renegade Emperor Titan and so as to sneak up on three or four Warlord Titans. The Titans were waiting for a (I think) company of Imperial Fists, which would have been completely annihilated.

In the end, all the titans got blasted or smashed, but everything is well detailed and doesn't look *that* impossible. Even the taking of the Emperor Titan in the first place...

They could take titan if they got inside but i don't think they could control it but maybe they had help.

I have to agree with some earlier posters and say that the Imperator in Helsreach (Invigilata) did an Imperator justice. The only way the Orks managed to wreck it was by

Is this in relation to the Ian Watson book? The Fists piloted it after eating the barins of the previous operators, since by doing so, the Marines learn what the operators knew.

Yes @ what Loki said. Back then, the pilots didn't have the neural plugs they need nowadays

Though the titans the Fists capture and fight are said to be done differently from those on Mars - they possibly come from there, but they were somehow different than those of the Legio Titanicus.

I think the reason why it seems like the titans have so few victories is because people want the characters to seem bad-ass.
'Oh look at me! I've just killed a titan! I'm so cool!'

It's just mainly there to provide an atmosphere of dread, despair, and when the titan is all dead an exploded, euphoria...

unless of course someone's already stated this....

It's been implied but not outright stated.

The reason why you're not seeing more Titan victories is because you're not reading Titan-centric background. It's as simple as that. If you're reading about Space Marines, they're going to be the measure of awesome. Ditto for the Titans. In Titanicus, for example, the level of destruction inflicted by Titans seems to rival the destructive power of orbital bombardment seen in other books (and alluded to in Legion) and so on.

Plus there's that nice bit about the First Princeps that's so old and messed up that he's going senile.

Paraphrased:

Master of the Forge: "Hey, visiting Titan Legion from religiously dissenting Forge-world, it turns out we have the revealed truth here and it says you're wrong. So please dismount your Titans and renounce your allegience to the Emperor."
Princeps: "No."
Master of the Forge: "Why not? Because it's totally written down here and everything."
Principes: "Because feth you. I'm a Titan."

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'd imagine something like Macross: Frontier but with more horizon and more walking, particularly the scene where the Macross Quarter, Macross Frontier, and Rabbit One (VB-6 König Monster) take on the Macross Galaxy in close-combat.

True, the Titanicus book, puts out more lore on the Mechanicus cult than any other book I know. Dan abnett describes the titan there as both awesome and near invincible to sometimes helpless even against ground troops grappling it's legs. A balance of both destructive power and stealth by titans are a thing to behold.
In that story, the legio that rescued the forgeworld fought against a chaos titan force almost four times their own number and won, by maneuvers and firepower

Those titans were retro fitted so the evil Governor could have titans without the use of the precepts/moderati who would be under Imperial control.

Titans should be the ultimate fighting machines which they are, destroying one should be a big thing such a shame those big things happen every book.

I dont know why they need to balance even the fluff, where the titans get some beating, they are awesomely destructive war machines!
But then again, at the Titanicus book, the titans get beaten by other titans, so that is good somewhat. It should be titans that get to kick other titan's ass

Sticking his nose into this thread

In the old Nid codex there's some stuff about hive fleet leviathan attacking a forge world (Gryphonne IV) :

"Within the hour, the ground shook to the tread of Titans, the fearsome God-Machines emerging from their cathedral-hangers to engage biological monstrosities stalking through the manufactorum like colossal predatory spiders. As each Titan shot the guts out from its alien adversary, another God-Machine was torn apart by enormous bladed claws and gouts of hissing pyro-acid."

It concluded with:

"But despite the resolve of the Techpriests and the terrible toll their creations were taking on the Tyranid invaders, they were eventually overwhelmed. The mighty Titans of the War Gryphon legion were brought crashing down, one by one, until none remained to defend the forges of their birth. Within days, the world was scoured, and Hive Fleet Leviathan had moved on."

Don't know if you would see this as a loss or a sort of victory(with the titans killing ridiculous numbers of nids and all) but it's there.

It's a loss. Due tot he nature of 'nids you either winor lose. There are no draws.
Also that was one of my favorite bits in the old nid codex.

Firing my Hellgun into a Fire Warrior's head....

It would seem the sheer scale of most battles in the 40k universe are massive. I can understand titans being brought down more often than people would think for the simple task of maintaining them. They are massive machines! They probably burn through more ammo than hundreds of foot soldier regiments. Then all of those gears and cogs they have in them, it doesnt seem they can retreat back to base to be fixed all the time either.

Im probably being a classic annoying Tyranid fanatic here but the Bio-titans of the Tyranid hive fleets do not need maintenance, they heal, and probably at excelerated rates. Also, their ammo is living as well, these massive creatures are constantly making millions of projectiles even while they fire them off. Agility would also come into play in the titan battles on Gryphonne IV. A living thing will almost always be faster and more cunning than a huge lumbering machine. So in my opinion (not because the 'nids are my favorite) but the imperiums titans are horribly outmatched by ANY bio-titan.

I loved Titanicus for those reasons, particularly the use of stealth in Titan-to-Titan combat. Probably my favorite parts involve the various IG/PDF forces saying things along the lines of "How the feth can you lose track of something that big?" and then having to deal with the God-Machines pulling a Creed right and left.

Ouze on GW: "I'd like to be like, hey baby, you're a freak but you just got too much crazy going on, and I don't hook up with bunny boilers. But then Necrons are going to come out, and I'm going to be like damn girl, and then next thing you know, it's angry sex time again.

It's complicated."

It is also mentioned at Titanicus, that the Legio Invicta just came from a large scale war against the eldar with their agile titans and won with 8 engines lost, so they're under strength and needed refit, then they're at it again rescuing a forgeworld from chaos titans Just awesome book.

Right behind you. No, really.

in codex-orks it is true that Wazdakka kills a Titan but it says that it destroyed MASSIVE amounts of boyz&such first.
Only way Wazdakka "killed" it was by driving his bike into the cockpit and killing everyone inside.

Anyway, Wazdakka only won by default from killing the crew. the Titan itself was never defeated.
