so, if you want plate glass, then you're going for the big shards. If you're going for laminated glass (like most glass is nowadays), then yeah, it fragments basically into sand. Windshields are like triple-laminated glass, because the last thing they want in a car accident is giant jaggeties of glass crashing into people, which is why windshields basically break into a powder.

If you're going laminated, though, don't use salt. Any modeling material that instantly dissolves in water sounds like a bad idea to me.

I remember in school you'd get those little glass sheets for covering what you put under a microscope; they sound perfect and I'm pretty sure you can get them in different sizes.

poor some water effects onto a sheet of wax paper or something and then let it dry,then break it when it dries.

Get a bottle of beer.

Get a hammer. Start pounding.

Get gloves. Pick up the glass. Use PVA glue to glue it on the model.

Remember not to touch the model with too much pressure if you don't want blood.


I used real glass when making fighting kites once (you glue it on the string to kill the other person's kite) and once hammered, it's fine enough to represent a miniature version of broken glass. Only downside is that.... it's sharp.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.
