fodderofdoom wrote:Okay, so any tips on playing Spy, Scout, Pyro, Heavy, and Engie?

Spy: Learn the maps inside and out. More than knowing where good hiding spots are, know where some mediocre hiding spots are as well, because a good pyro will check the hiding spots of a spy. Practice stab/sap combos and sap/stab combos-- quickly backstab then switch to sapper and place it on their sentry before it can turn around to shoot you, or sap the sentry and stab the engy. The former tends to work better in my experience, but sometimes you don't have much of a choice. Learn how to use your revolver effectively-- it's actually a remarkably useful weapon because it does a good amount of damage per shot, but it takes some aim.

Scout: Learn the maps. Know where you can jump to, know where you can't, learn where the health kits are, etc. You'll probably be a very, very low priority for friendly medics so you have to look out for yourself.

Pyro: Learn the maps. Know where spies hide, know where you can come around a corner setting a huge group on fire. Know where you can airblast people off of a platform to fall to their deaths, or at least to inconvenience them after setting them on fire. Remember to airblast allies who are on fire, as it puts the fire out. Don't forget about your shotgun and axe, as they're just as good for the pyro as they are for the engineer.

Heavy: Learn the maps. Know where you need to rev up your minigun so that you're ready to fire as you go around the corner. Know where enemy snipers are hiding so you know where to avoid. Attempt to be a hard target to headshot by randomly crouching. Make good friends with a medic, but know that sometimes another class is better for the uber so don't get upset if you aren't picked.

Engineer: Learn the maps. Know where good spots are, know the various quirks that allow you to get to weird places on maps (such as ontop of buildings) by jumping on your buildings and placing teleporters. Don't forget to use your shotgun occasionally, it can actually be damned useful. Teleporters and dispensers are often more useful to the team than sentries, but don't forget to lay down the sentry if you have time and metal. Learn where the various metal deposits are on any given map.

You see a common theme here I imagine ^.^

Spy is a bit hard, you'll need lots of luck. Pyros will be your bane. Dont always go for the backstab. Support ubers and such with sapping sentries and dispensers. Cause suspicion in the enemy team to distract them from the frontlines

Scout, hes fast. pick off weak enemies and cap objectives. Hes short ranged besides pistol. Least HP along with sniper, spy, and engie. Sentries can murder you easily. Not very good if there are too many engies on the enemy teams. Very useful against bad snipers though

Pyro is easy, just click your flame thrower and run around. You dont always kill but dropping in on 3-4 guys and killing their medic while igniting the rest of them is useful. But you are short ranged. Airblast helps that a bit but shotguns, sentries, and miniguns can hamper your day fast

Heavy is also self explanatory. Medics love you. You can pump out a lot of damage up close. good for blocking small hallways. But you are very slow and short ranges. Snipers, spys, and camping demos can easily take advantage over you. I would probably switch out shotgun for sandwich once you get it. Very useful in case medic is gone

Engie is mainly support. You either sit back with a sentry and dispenser covering a point or you run to the front getting teleporters and such so your team can push up with ease. Spys, sticky demos, soldiers, and almost anything ubered can cause you problems. If you see other engies, help them build. setting up sentries and dispensers quickly can be vital.

Spy isn't hard as long as you play right.

I was ranked ~40 as a spy at one point, mind you, but once you really learn how to be a spy and learn the groove of spy playing, you can murder half a team in one go and get away with it.

That's only for lame pyros that suck.

W+M1=backstabbed pyro, the most embarassed type of pyro.

Get the highest sensitivity, spin around while running=no backstabs Of course you'll never see that heavy medic combo around the corner

Just got the degreaser though, instant switch is awesome! Also any of you use skins? Theres a pretty dedicated fanbase out there

She's right. Good pyros realize one thing. After the realization of this one thing, they become much better Pyros and start playing smartly.

A Pyro is not a DPS Class.

A Pyro is all about Control.

Every person you light on fire has to run around and find some source of health. Medic, Despenser, Health Kit, whatever, in order to avoid taking some damage, half of some classes health (Afterburn does 60 damage). The time it takes them to put themselves out is time they are not trying to kill your allies. If they use Jarate or Milk to extinguish themselves, you just did your job, because those "weapons" are on a timer, and anyone who has played the game longer than a month will admit to them being incredibly strong. +35% damage or 75% damage as health is nothing to laugh at, especially when combined.

Learn how to Airblast. This negates two classes, so that you can control them too. If those Soldiers and Demos are using their shotgun/eyelander to try to kill you, they aren't trying to blow up your team. Also, Airblast is the only thing in the game that is capable of negating an Uber, and that makes it very nice. I never cared for the Backburner because of it's lack of Airblast, though some people swear by it. If you see a team mate on fire, Airblast him. This will put him out, and allows you to control Pyros.

There are only two classes that people NEVER want to run into in a close combat situation. A Heavy, and a Pyro. People run from Pyros, make use of this. Anecdoctal, I once won a game because of this. A Heavy had two medics on him, I some how got between them, the two medics ran for the hills, the Heavy died, and by that time there wasn't enough of the force left to take on my teams defenses. Even though I died, I basically won the match for us. That and the medics didn't have an Uber ready, apparantly.

If you see a team mate acting wierd, Flame him, to check if he is a spy. As a Pyro, You hate spies. HATE. SPIES. (I'm looking at you now, Melissia. Don't think I'm not....). If you see stickies getting put next to an Engy Nest, airblast them away, another way to control Demos.

I used to be a pretty good Pyro, but I stopped playing for a while, came back and pretty much only played Soldier. Definately thinking about picking up my Torch again.

Anyone have a V. Axtinguisher for trade? I have a V. Frontier Justice (The Engy shotgun that gives revenge crits.)

Hate me?

You should fear me.

A good spy can ruin a team's day single-handedly. Payload maps are the best for this, but other maps work just as well as long as you know the map and your setup's abilities. And even if you only get a single kill per life, if that kill's a medic who was charging up an uber, the spy's already doing better than most of his/her team.

And if I have the dead ringer out, am I reaaaaaally dead? You never know. Maybe I am and you're wasting time looking for me... or maybe I'm not and you stopped looking too early... Sometimes just getting people paranoid about spies disrupts their attacks so much that they can't get through defense.

I do, I both hate and fear you.

Spies come from all angles and just when you think "Nope, no spies around here!" that's when they get ya. Because that's how they get ya, over confidence man! You always got to be on the look out for those bloodah spahs.

Hell, TF2 has made me so paranoid because of spies that I almost always get a team kill whenever I play any other shooter

I feel your pain.

It is almost an automatic instinct for me to turn back and shoot in any FPS due to how much I do it as a Pyro. And as consequence I get the typical profanity filled rage of the common "obnoxious guy with a mic in his twenties" mentally lashing me.

Fortunately I'm seeing less and less deadly spies as I am addicted to a 2fort "arena" server with more and more people poorly using of the "Your Eternal Reward".

Ah yes, the eternal reward. Really shows whos a good or bad spy!

The polycount items are all very silly, especially that shortstop! (why isnt there a negative again?)

Currently, I am debating on wether or not I should hold on to all my metal for Polycount 2.0 when Metal Prices will skyrocket (Probably allowing me to get Set Hats for a single Refined) or trading it for keys to try to get an unusual.

What would you guys do in my situation?

Any of you guys want to play/friend? I'm open to practically any game mode except Arena, and can play *most* classes adequately.

LOVE me some 2Fort action.

Pyros are great - and definitely never give up the airblast. Helps in rushes by putting out fires on team-mates and lets you reflect most projectiles. Also the best Spy-checkers in the game.

You're not gonna be causing as much damage as a solid Soldier/Demo or Heavy, but you can mess up an enemy assault something fierce by setting people on fire and air-blasting juggling them.
