9 Because it's my favourite number, and has been long before I learned that it was Tzeentch's number. I would've preferred Khorne, but being a patron of Tzeentch is fine too.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I've actually seen this in a magic trick book (although it was a very lame trick). You ask a person to pick a number 1 through 10, and always guess their number as 7. There's no trick to it or anything, but 7 is the most commonly picked "random" number, so you play the odds.
7 was actually going to be my pick, but then I remembered this factoid and went with 1 to screw up your data

Why not just roll a D12 and re-roll 12's?

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack |

And if you have more than 12 players, use a D20. Reroll invalid results. The problem with asking people to pick is that you are not asking for a random result.

I showed them this data and this is now what we are doing.
Thanks goes out to everyone.

I hate hard counters. In a game of rock, paper, scissors, I hate playing any of the factions because no matter what you choose you might as well not deploy against your hard counter. I want to use a gun. Rock, paper, and scissors could all probably still beat gun, but gun will never feel like a game is a lost cause. |

Even if you did, people prefer kinda-sorta random over true random... For example, people tend to feel that repetition is 'not random' but in this situation, it would be perfectly valid for the same number to show up several times in a row.

In western European culture, seven is regarded as a lucky number and is often picked by people when asked to pick a number.
If you ask the same question of Chinese and Japanese people, you will get a low response on 4 and 7, and a high response on eight. This is because in Chinese and Japanese, the words for four and seven sound similar to the word "death'. I don't know why 8 is considered lucky.
It is similar to asking Europeans to pick a number between 11 and 20. You will get a low rate of responses for 13.
TL R Cultural Bias changes the numbers people pick.

This and that most people asked just picked low numbers because everyone had their basic non-special players listed first on their rosters, so that the really good players would not get any better...
All is well now.
However the results of this poll are interesting...
