It's not to say that Mephiston is bad, it's just that he's a bad HQ choice.

Plus, I wasn't under the impression that a blood angels army had problems being choppy that only mephiston could solve...

I think he's much better in the HQ slot. Elite slots have alot of other good units and how many ba lists need more than 2 hq's?

so the reason something which in any regular codex should be an elites choice is an HQ choice is because there are too many other shiny toys in the elites section that you want to take?

Boo hoo.

The thing that's nice about the CCS is that it does so much.

- it buffs nearby people with whatever they happen to need most at the moment (like a farseer).

- it effects the meta of the game with advisers (like an autarch)

- it improves the leadership of nearby models with a standard (like lots of good HQ choices).

- it is a strong unit in it's own right. 120 points gets you 9 twin-linked BS4 plasma attacks per round of shooting. That's a dead trygon per player turn. That's also if you don't take the artillery adviser, in which case the squad also counts as a basilisk.

What is mephiston? A monstrous creature without the monstrous creature rule - nothing else. Should be elites or heavy support.

@shas'o rohan: I LIKE MRAKELIGHTS! I KNOW HOW TO USE THEM! thing is that my friends know how important markerlights are for tau, since they've been into 40k longer than I have. I've tried every possible combination for my tau that I can use, and with that 1 scenario, my friend Lazyorc was fielding 2 shoota squads of 20 and had the dice gods on his side that day....it was the same match that I found out how nasty my shas'o could be before he got insto-killed by 1 rokkit (that actually being the only wound he took the whole game) to the face....nuff said.

I am NOT a crook. I have never stolen a thing in my life. BUT I have borrowed things with no intent whatsoever on returning them....

Ummm...somewhere...

I have to so an Archon with an Agoniser, Phantasm Grenade Luncher, Shadow field and the web way gate has been working really well for me, stick him in an incubi squad, rush up 18" in a raider, drop em off in cover, chuck out the webway gate and hide behind it to block LOS as well as the cover behind you, then you have your opponent crying as his base line is over whelmed by assualty units (of course this isn't particularly effective against mech...) and the PGL gives your Incubi squad a bonus, plus he's a close combat monster if you get the dice gods on you side

Of the ones I know of, I would have to go with either the Sawrmlord with Tyrant Guard, Abbadon, Calgar with Terminator Armour or maybe Mephiston.

But he also nets you an Honour Guard squad, which is pretty cool.

Ghazghkull is an absolute monster in close combat, and his Waaagh! is incredible. While it's active he's also very, very hard to kill thanks to the 2+ invulnerable save.

But then again, I'm green to the heart so I might be biased.

As far as smashy HQ's go, Ghaz is definetly up there. He manages to be one of the most devestating characters in assualt, while also giving an awesome army wide buff.
