One phrase, yes it is, although you can get ebay's help on unreliable sellers!

Ebay is fine. Paypal protections are much more spotty.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

If anything, the protection of the seller has gone too far.)

Uhh, sellers can't even leave a negative feedback anymore.

Sellers take all the risks, and the pay all the fees.

While most of my transactions are good, I have been scammed as a seller and a buyer and many more times as a seller, paypal and Bay court buyers more than anything else.

It's totally a buyers market. Go for it, use paypal.

However...

the main reason is my dad, who thinks ebay is a good way to get scammed. i just want to ask you guys so i can back myself up should he deny to buy something.

If your dad is concerned about eBay, how the heck will he feel when he is confronted with 'facts' taken from strangers on a forum called Dakka Dakka?

ah, good point, the first thing he'll ask is WTF is Dakka Dakka, is that some kind of Arab dish? i mean what am i on about, i could be getting facts from a bunch of scammers trying to get me to give them my money.
well my dad has never liked the idea of doing anything online due to hacking and all that, he's never done internet banking and he will only buy stuff from amazon if it is from and shipped by amazon itself. the moment he reads 1 used and new, he's like F that, i'm not buying it.

That's exactly it. Sellers have effectively had their nuts chopped off by eBay, which is why I spent a wonderful 2 years selling exclusively on forums like Dakka, Bartertown, CMON, The Forum of Doom, etc. I did come slouching back, very grudgingly, but only because you still can't beat eBay if you absolutely have to sell it now.

So yeah, go ahead and buy; you've got buyer's protection coming out your ears there!

Bernard, float over here so I can punch you.

You do take some risk, and all of the fee's. I use eBay a lot for selling because I feel like the increased market size, more then makes up for the fee's charged.
