Considering the only way to give FNP to nids is to also have a tervigon following close by, yeah.

It's nearly imposible to kill, and yes the swarmlord gets his unit a cover save if there hiding behind him, as does two primes hiding behind 2 carnafexes as one unit, it has to do with the fact that they are both monstrous creatures, ask almost any nid player, i have had people try to argue otherwise, and i've had my friend whose been playing tyranids since their 5th ed codex came out, and who has been playing 40k for years explain why you whould get a cover save. Only the tyranids have come across this using monstrous' as sheilds, since the hive tyrant (and Swarmlord) are the only monstrous creatures that can join a unit, and carnafexes are the only unit of multiple monstrous. Since a independent like the prime cannot join a unit that is a single model, and because all other monstrous creatures do not come in units over 1, only tyranids can use this.

So would a tyranid player explain it?

As one great broodlord once said; "NOOMM!!!! NOOOMMM!!!! ME WANTS MORE ELDAR!!! With a little tau on the side and some guardsmen for appetizers if you would please waiter..."

92% of teens have moved on to rap. If you are one of the 8% who still listen to real music, copy and paste this into your sig.

I am a tyranid player, and you are wrong.

If you want, throw a post in YMDC and see.

You are Wrong. Models in a unit do not grant cover to models in the same unit. Quote me the page in the rule book where it says they do.

The Swarmlord is a good model to take, but you have to build the army to take advanatage of him. That means lots of little bugs for him to augment and get cover from (when he's attached to at least one Tyrant Guard) and some units to deep strike and outflank to take advanatage of his +1 to reserves.

I use him with hormagants who already have poison. They stay in front of the Swarmlord and provide cover to the Lord + Guard behind. Then the Swarmlord can give them FC to combat Marines or even hit the rear armor of tanks in combat.

This. Seriously.

The Swarmlord feels like he is well worth his points in 2000 points. Any less and you start to suffer from all-your-eggs-in-one-basket. It might as well be mandatory for three tyrant guard with lashwhips; they are needed.

I've had a few games where he has gotten stuck in and killed off key HQ and Elite choices. I've had games where the entire other army hops in transports and he doesn't get anything. In either case, he absorbs so much firepower and buffs so many units that he feels like a great investment either way.

This is just plaing wrong. It doesn't matter whether the Swarmlord is a MC or IC. The only thing that matters is that he forms a unit with the tyrant guards. No model within a unit may give other models within the same unit cover.

It isn't right just because someone who's been playing 40K ever since the stone ages says so. It's only right if the rulebook says so.
