True, though I'll probably still buy one separate. Not too much more.
I have an idea of how I want to build my army. Close range assault-type with long range support to help whittle down the foes. Does this sound like a Space Marine (Ultramarine) tactic?

I went to the GW today to replace a defective brush. I talked to the Red Shirt there and when I told him that I wanted close-ish range with long range support and he told me Space Wolves. Looking at their style of play and style I can't argue, SWs are just badass Viking Space Marines. Though this means I have to get the battleforce now I don't mind since I now know for sure that I want to play the army. Though their painting may be a little harder. But now I can figure out what my army should be like a bit easier.
So am I right about the space wolves? I switched to them part for the awesome and part because I'd imagine they're not played quite as much as the normal Space Marines. Am I right about that?

On the subject of glue: I swear by metal / super glue. I never use plastic glue. Plastic glue is as good as blue tac, will ruin your models if put in the wrong place, is not sturdy, and never harden.
A touch of super glue will hold an arm or a leg for life, and you dont have to worry about spillage, if your quick, a wipe with a tissue and theres no harm done, other than some removable furriness on your models. Note: taking to long to wipe super glue off with a tissue can cause the tissue to be glued to the mode. This is highly undesirable.
Use super glue.
Also, If you want a HQ, use a proper HQ, one HQ is fine for space marines, it is unneccesary to take 2, unlike an army like imperial guard, where it is much better to take 2 than one. Do not use a sergeant as a HQ unless theres really nothing else. Buy a space marine captain, hes got all you ever wanted. Perhaps give him a powersword / relic blade, and a plasma pistol, for a low level fun to play captain. Later on, once you have some terminators or assault marines, you might want to try out a captain with a Jump Pack, a thunder hammer, or a storm shield. My current SM captain has storm shield and relic blade. Further more, you can throw your captain on a bike. Space marines have some of the best options for their commanders of any race, use your captains wisely.
On the other hand, require a HQ but wanna keep it cheap? Captain with bolt pistol and chainsword for 100 points, yes please Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and on the subject of tactical squads versus combat squads: It is much better to take a tactical squad and split it into 2 combat squads at the start of the game, rather than simply having 2 combat squads. This is due to the fact that combat squads are unable to take special / heavy weapons, tactical squads are.

Space wolves are primarily a Close Range assault army, as every single one of their Power Armored brethren are given a Bolt Pistol and Close Combat weapon, and all have Counter Attack. However in terms of long range support, they have one of the best Devastator Squads (long fangs) in all of the SM codexes. They're also not any noticably inferior in ranged firepower compared to any other Marine Army, unless you decide to run Thunderfire cannons. They do compensate a little with Bjorn, who has the most accurate Plasma cannon in the game. His status as a Ven Dread means that you spend less overall on your HQ, since you dont need to protect it with a retinue of some sort. Vanilla SM armies are more range-geared since their basic trooper do not have close combat weapons and they possess alot more (and effective) Techmarines due to the Master of the Forge. Space Wolves fits what you're asking for though.
Space Wolves, however, are currently one of the most played armies right now due to how powerful their codex is. Taking a min squad of Grey Hunters armed with Special Weapons and a Razorback is devastatingly effective for their cheap cost. Their base troop cost is also retardedly cheap. A Grey Hunter has 1 more attack than the normal Space Marine, Acute Senses, and Counter attack, and is actually 2 points cheaper than a normal Space Marine. While you can argue that SMs can get free Missile launchers and flamers, Grey Hunters do not need to buy full squads to gain similar benefits. Thunder Wolf Cavalries are also one of the most hardhitting SM units around.

I thought that normal (main codex chapter/invented chapter) Space Marines would be the ones overplayed. Oh well, Wolves just seem cooler to play and paint than normal Marines.
From what I can see (haven't had a chance to read the codex yet) you can have 2 HQ per HQ for a total of 4.
What're the main differences between the Razorback and Rhino?
I'm probably going to have a Predator in the back as part of the long range, and maybe have a Vindicator and/or Land Raider Land Raider is Termie transport right?)

Space Wolves kinda unbalanced the game, and most marine players now either proxy their armies as Wolves or outright start a SW army. Most still start as SMs but quickly move to either SW or BA for their more "fun" stuff.

Maybe, then again, it was 2 vs 1 controlling 2. Though I think it was SM & Tau vs. CSM & Chaos Daemons.
I have a little while to start planning my army out since I'll have no funds for it for a bit. No idea how my army will be organized, but at least SW are more focused so it's a bit easier. Maybe have a basic attack force, the Long Fangs and a Predator for long range, and termies in a land raider crusader. Wow, for pulling that out of my ass it doesn't sound too bad. I'm guessing drop pods are normal for SW so maybe have 2 in a 1500 point army? What should go in the drop pods? Dreadnought or troops?
The next issue will be temporary storage for the units, maybe the briefcase idea is best until I hit 1500, that's a size that will definitely require a case, maybe two. The sticking point I'm hitting for the games workshop case is that I think a lot of space wolf units would be too wide, like the cavalry and some of the HQ. I want to go with Sabol since it's the most customizable but $75USD for shipping is crazy for just sending it to Canada. It seems hard to make transport from KR work because of the drop pod(s) take up a lot of space so I'd probably have to get one of their Kaiser Twos which doesn't seem too big.
Does anyone know of companies that have non-insane shipping to Canada? Also I would probably need to send them an army list and get suggestions back. Maelstrom Games have free shipping anywhere. If you live within the Toronto or Mississauga Area, there's also a Place called Heavy Support that gives less discounts, but has full direct order and in-store pick up.

Nope, Montreal. And it's all well and good that they have free shipping anywhere, but the customization is important. When I buy my army I'll send a list to KR Multicase and see if they can help. Also Battlefoam looks promising because you can completely customize every tray by rotating and squeezing in units! It seems the shipping for them is about $35 which is reasonable if I have to go with them.
Do you think any of these case companies will help me if I make a list? Would it be better if I sent measurements with them? Although, without building the units I have no way to get measurements.

How long ago? I assume it'd be in the hardware/repair section. I'm guessing you had to pad the sections yourself? Hopefully they still have something similar. How big is it? It'd really help if I could see some pictures of it, maybe with your units in it so I can judge the size of the spaces.

The Walls are padded with a thin layer of foam, but I tend to pack it with some tissue for extra protection. It's large enough to fit a defiler and a land Raider into, as well as several other models along with those two. It's a good bit larger than the GW case. You can see the modular wallls inside as well as the tool pad.
EDIT: IT was about 4-5 years ago. dont know if they still stock it, but would hurt to give it a try.

Thanks, I'm guessing you pad the units individually so they don't bump into each other? Are those partitions of any length you chose? This seems like a great temporary or even permanent solution with enough work.

I just move them to whatever size the largest units require. Anything smaller than a rhino I just throw in there. I dont wrap any of the models, stuffing some tissue in there is good enough. Small Plastic models dont suffer at all due to their light weight, and anything larger than a rhino tend to have no room whatsoever to bounce around to cause damage. I always separate metal models with a few pieces of tissue to avoid scratching, and metal is very sturdy if you used a good glue, so they've never come apart on me before.

Those partitions, are the a static size? or do they change size?
I'm considering making a sort of thin foam lining. All in all, this looks awesome for $20 plus whatever for the foam, which I'm sure i can find some thin foam to space the units.

No problem on that one, hopefully I can find one of those. I think I may only have the battleforce drop pod and a rhino/razorback or two to start for vehicles so I'm good on room.
I may get a Land Raider Crusader, though I doubt I could fit all those and troops, and I'd guess heavy weapons like that is for after the 1500 mark. I'd probably get a Predator before the Land Raider.
