Overall Story progression, it seems that when the 41st millennium hits that all dates and time itself stops....according to GW

Also more diverse codices for all different chapters, craftworlds, Hive fleets, etc. you know make each unique from the other have benefits of taken this over the other and what not. Hell GW and fans win more choices, models, story and more money for GW

Biggest things?

Amalgamate SM books. We'd have C:SM, C:CSM, and Caemonhunters which would be both grey knights and INQ units. If you can move to a different army without changing almost any models, you don't need a distinct book for it.

Kill Points. Ditch them, and ditch them hard.

Fluff consistency and maybe tone down the space marines a bit (fluff wise some of the descriptions about even the average space marine soldier is way too OTT for me ). Also get rid of spin-off codex's.

I'd change deep striking: deep striking vehicles count as ramming (or tank shock) if they hit another model at maximum speed. Troops are still affected as normal. I'm sorry, but if my land raider (sorry, yes I have BA) lands on a lone gaunt, there should be NO chance that it blows up, and instead it should squash said gaunt. Currently, the rule is pure idiocy.
Also, on a related topic, ICs cannot have one type of deep strike option (like wings/jump pack) and be put into another deep striking unit (like terminators) and be able to deep strike: they are different versions and should be treated differently. And teleporting, flying, arriving from the eye of terror should all be treated differently in game: different rules for each. My deep strike rant is over.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

If your Land Raider hits another tank though, it's probably ****ed. What the Mishaps represent is the unit being shotdown, equipment malfunction, intercepted, etc.

Have it be more inclusive (what some around here might call more "PC"), both in terms of fluff and model range. Yes, including that one very sore issue that will not be named. 40k is fun but the representation you get of the people of an entire galaxy-spanning empire is a bit jarringly homogeneous for me.

What I would change is a fluff addition. Bring back the link between fantasy and 40k(Mostly the chaos gods) instead of having them as it currently is, separate dimensions.

things i would do:

Change squadron rules... IRL, if you have an immobilized tank, it can still SHOOT!!!! it should, instead of being destroyed become...... an immobilized tank!

Also in the squadron rules, everyone with the squadron option should get the same treatment. What i mean is this: Either you get to have up to 3 unique vehicles (leman russ) OR, you have up to 3 identical units (Carnifex)

i would bring back a Traits style system, like the SMs had in 4th ed. but, i would bring that system back with every codex possible.. Each chart would be unique to its codex, and would provide interesting abilities/alternate mission types.

codex specific things would change as well... Orks would be able to get Looted tanks, where they could pay for the base cost of a vehicle from ANY codex, keep 0-1 of its original weapons (no upgraded options), and pay points for Ork weapons.

Chaos marines would get multiple codices. One for Legions (which would easily be as big as vanilla loyalist codex) and one for Renegades and LatD.

loyal marines would see a few books disappear. BA, DA and vanilla dex would be rolled into one. things like Descent of Angels would apply to the "true" masters of deepstrike (chapters like the space sharks, raven guard and others) rather than just one ridiculous book.

I would also expand rules for small point games, like the combat patrol, as well as a baseline rules for the use of super heavies in standard games.

Definitely change the you-go-i-go. Game design has evolved in the last 25 years, and GW needs to get with it.

Also, I can't understand how they can't just release a codex like every month or every other month like a normal company. I really don't get it.

Because they have one guy guy working on it. And its not fair to make him stop drinking coffee and searching internet porn with a blank word document open.

Then once every three months they get bored of coffee and porn and try to find different coffee and a new website and while they assign peons to do this they pull an overnighter with the art guys and make a codex!

But this would often benefit people. Crap you immobilized 3 leman russ tanks out of my 6 tanks (in squadrons of two) now it can fire at 6 targets and dont have to allocate pens and glances like wounds! And then what happens if a tech marine fixes it? it becomes its own squad or teleports back to its friend. I would drive my leman russes back and forth over terrain so this would happen.

as for what i would change, i would make it so that whatever unit assaults gets to attack first, and initiative only matters after the first round. im tired of assaulting a squad and then having to let them kill 3-5 of my boyz before i can make any attacks. it would also make assaulting with damaged units more viable.

Make Sweeping Advances less punishing

Way less "remove from play" crap like JotWW, a ton of DE wargear (though some of it is justified)

Turns done on a unit basis rather than an entire army going one at a time. Whoever goes first can practically win sometimes before their opponent even starts. Maybe something based on Initiative could determine turn order.

GW actually taking advice from their fans. Why they don't have a forum for this is absolutely beyond me. Seems to me if GW spent any amount of time listening to the posts people make on these wargaming sites they could have very easily fine-tuned their game to perfection without spending a dime on wages!
Whoops don't tell the GW staffers I said that.. they'd all be out of jobs! lol!

Variant army codex's. For the various chaos legions, craftworlds, hivefleets etc. With real different feel to them, ie one hivefleet could be for more bug like tyranids, I guess you'd have to do all the models yourself but still.

Rule wise everything.

This is exactly what I was going to post. I think it's ridiculous that some armies are virtually unplayable for years because their 'dex hasn't been updated.

They'd still make a killing on new model releases too, would just imporve the game drastically.

I didn't know Orks have initiative 2, either way I probably should have mentioned that I would change initiative values across the board to balance the game. Generally I've always thought that it's really odd how deciding to hit somebody magically allows you to double your movement.

I am really new to this game, but I agree with many of the posters that the turn system needs to be utterly revamped. Each phase should be you go, I go; not each turn. Also, there should be psychic powers that you can use during the other person's turn, especially powers that are used during assaults. GW needs to do MUCH MUCH more to have direct connection with their fans- this is where most other gaming companies are light years ahead of them. The problems with codex updated have been run into the ground here; when I first looked, i wanted to play Necrons, but then I was advised that their codex has not been updated in forever and that they are really hamstrung by it.

Overall I agree with this.

While we do play the game for the game I think a lot of people play to play within the cannon/fluff. In my opinion this edition and it's codex's associated with this release have really stepped on the fluff from an army list creation perspective and over all feel of the game.

Again, with so much emphasis on SC's you put yourself in a hole because in a bloody grim dark universe, people die. Especially notable people. I believe if they move the story a long they will also have to kill and create new characters which means we would just see an over abundance of SC's. If they integrated traits in all codices then you drop this problem. This would also encourage one codex for marines which I know is a pain point for all non-divergent SM players with the codex cycle time frame etc.

If you think about it every army in this game could very easily do a trait system.

buying x and y unlocks this or that but closes off that.

Very simple and encourages a lot of creativity to grow the fluff.

I would say only infantry, no matter what FOC slot it takes up can hold an objective; although I do believe they should be able to still claim if they are in their transport. Anything can contest.

agree with most of what you say, except this.

The game has already gone from squad to skirmish to a wing of a fighting force. Every addition sees us adding more vehicles, more units which all cost the player more and more money to get into the hobby and dramatically increase the play time of a 2k game.

Apocolypse exists seperately for a reason and should remain that way. As it is now a standard 40k board does not facilitate Apoc. You have weapons with obscene ranges that are never utilised in the least and formations cant even breathe with so much crap on the board. If you ask me Apoc should be played on 8x16 foot boards ONLY.
