1.) How securely do the sections lock into place? How, specifically, do they lock into place? Is it possible to put it on a 6 foot by 2.5 foot table without it falling apart, or would I need both tables? Will it unsnap\fall apart with dudes putting their beefy elbows on it? Is it possible to somehow lock it onto a smaller table with pegs or something, or must I use both tables to support it?

How securely do they lock? Pretty securely, when you have them locked
How do they lock? Annoying little clips, two per side, on the underside of the board. Makes it a bit of a PITA to get the whole thing clipped together. We usually just clip the outermost one, all the way around, and ignore the internal spots.

If you have 9" hanging off of each edge, yeah. it's going to come apart if Bob the Beefy leans on it. You don't want to have more than a couple inches hanging off of your edge, even if you have every tile clipped together properly. Rather than use both tables, though, you could get a couple sheets of 3' x 4' plywood to lay the ROBB on, if you don't want to use the full 5' widthe of your 2 tables.

2.) Do dice roll on it normally, or do they bounce weirdly?

My dice roll average everywhere but on this board. They do not bounce well and get crap rolls.

3.) Did you have any issues with the substrate coming off? Presume I will give the surface several "washes" of watered down PVA glue to seal it.

We did ours in an "ice world" theme. The white flock we used for snow will come off if we rub it, but it doesn't just flake off on it's own. Ours was sealed with a spray adhesive.

4.) Paint-wise, was it hard to paint each section so that they blended with any other section seamlessly? Was there a special technique you used to be able to put it together in several different configurations without the paint job looking "off"?

Not too difficult. We used an "ice" blue spray paint as a base, with white brushed liberally over that. The most difficult part will be getting coverage of any flocking you use to be consistent between the pieces.

5.) Is there a cheaper place to get one in the US then the Warstore? I wouldn't be in a big rush for this.

Last I checked, miniaturemarket was offering 25% off on all GW. So, yeah. You can get it cheaper.

Hope that helps.

Eric

P.S. ROBB is overpriced, and you should just make your own.

I did wind up getting it from the Warstore at 25% off.

Last night I started gluing down sand to the slopes on one of the tiles. Going well so far.

For last weeks game I brought over my Zuzzy mat to a friends. Very portable - I have a small backpack, and I just rolled that bad boy up and then folded it so it looked like 4 sausage links. I never did finish painting it, but it looked pretty good anyway. I don't regret getting it anymore. I can use the ROBB as my home board, and the Zuzzy as my "away" board.

The dice roll totally weird on the Zuzzy, though. All over the place, very bouncy. We wound up using a shoebox to roll the dice in.

Talking of weird die rolling, I actually witnessed the infamous "die landing on its corner" on a textured RoBB the other day.

I really wasn't sure I believed in such a phenomenon and suddenly there it was!

Here's a picture of that sand on the slopes to stop minis from sliding. I haven't played on it yet, obviously, but it definitely feels like it's got a lot more traction. I'll try to sprinkle some elsewhere on the board to keep it thematically contiguous.

Little blurry, I didn't feel like moving the tripod.
