Damn, I thought this was to discuss how fail-filled Abbadon really is. The stereotypical villain that could've been a sort of 40k Vader, who ends up being 40k's Baldrick*.

Happy Grunt nailed other aspects. And, FW's Abbadon was on a completely different scale (and his wrist protections are made of WOOD?)

*Who solved the problem of his house's low ceiling by chopping his mother's head off.

I just imagined imagined Roan Atkinson as Horus.

Incidentally, most hilarious use of Abbadon ever:
Deep strike in alone to challenge an Avatar of Khaine--killing it in one round with his TL bolters (It had already been wounded, BUT STILL).

I COULD NOT THINK OF A SOCIALLY-ACCEPTABLE WAY TO SAY I OFF THE CUFF THAT "HE IS LAME".

I dunno Because he's an ultrasmurf, and people don't like most of the ultrasmurf characters. Something about

True. Very little of his weapon is actually a blade, most of it is weird daemon decor, and what blade there is is very blunt.

EDIT: I'm not sure if forgeworld still makes it, but here's an abbadon model from them

That is indeed a mighty fine model...yeah I think he could certainly do with a remake, but with some careful converting you could do him with the new termy lord/sorcerer kit

Pretty much what folks have indicated already:

He's expensive.
He's not terribly mobile.
He's scary.
And the model just doesn't look quite right.

While Abbadon's a close combat machine (even if he occasionally manages to whack himself with his sword), he's not alone in that regard in the Chaos list. Kharn, Lucius and Huron also fit the bill (though without Eternal Warrior) if you're looking for the high test special characters and the standard HQ choices do a great job on their own.

I don't really have an issue with folks taking him, but it'd make sense for Abbadon to add something to the army, though I could say that about the rest of the Special Characters for that codex too. I'd also like to see that model reworked. I've tried to look at it differently a few times, but it just doesn't work for me.

And then there was the novel where Abbadon has a strict policy of killing slave who look at him.

What?

I mean yeah, yeah evil and all that but...

Like, how does he even get his armor polished?

Abby long ago jumped the shark from being a credible threat to just being Dr Evil.

I just imagined imagined Roan Atkinson as Horus.

Which would be lots of Samuel L. Jacksons' cooler than his present incarnation.

Honest question - why do so many people spell Abaddon as "Abbadon"? I noticed the blackshirt at my local GW store calls him Abba-don. I've always figured it's pronounced as "a bad 'un" , as in the opposite of "a good 'un".

Gotta agree with that one. Even more confusing when you take into account that there actually IS an "Abbadon" in 40k fluff. Solomon Abbadon was the leader of the rebel Mechanicus forces on Mars during the HH. Got smashed when the loyalists built Ordinatus Mars though. Still, I imagine that he'd like to have his name back...

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.
