However, im not sure whether it will stand out against the Blue of the Ultramarines that the rest of your army is.
Yeah, I was thinking about that too.. well, when it's not so good, i'm going to try and make it red. I guess I'll be painting the rest of the mini tomorrow, so we'll see.
Thanx! G.
I think a green or a purple would suit it better. Red would clash to much.
Love the work!

Actually, that's not a bad idea :p I have some Green ink from my LOTR times. Might use that if the blue doesn't look good.
Thanks! G.

Nice work on the ultramarines. If you can't drill out the gun barrels you could paint the hole black in the middle of the barrel end. I have done it in the past and it just gives it an extra detail. Also a wash of ogrn flesh or badab black over the white scrolls would make them stand out nicely.

That would be easier, i'll do that!

Wow! Things have progressed significantly since I visited last.... way to go! I really like the way the highlights turned out on the dread and the termie and that powersword looks great! There's two bits of advice I can provide for you:
First, highlight the helmet of the termie - it looks flat compared to the rest of the model. I'd try Iced Blue and Space Wolf Grey 75/25% if the basecoat is Iced Blue alone.
Second, take the eyes to the next level and try doing them "gem" style. GW has a tutorial on their website that's pretty good and there's plenty of advice on painting eldar gems, which is pretty much the same thing.
Personally, I reverse the order to make things easier for me - basecoat the entire eye white, then paint it Blazing Orange, add an oval of Blood Red making sure to leave a "Nike" stripe of orange along the bottom rim. Finally, add a tiny dot of Skull White towards the outer corner of the eye. If you want things to look 'Eavy Metal, paint a strip of black overlapping the eye and the faceplate before you paint the eye white, leaving a razor-thin strip of the black showing on the eye. It's hard to get just right, but looks awesome. I actually use Sunburst Yellow and Blazing Orange for my Crimson Fists, but I'd go more red for Ultras. Here's an example of mine:
The white dot is bigger than I'd normally recommend, but you get the idea. As you can see, the targeting lens on the launcher is painted in the same technique and little details like that really bring your rank-and-file to the next level and look great on a character model.

Thanx a lot! I really appreciate it.
I didn't notice that actually, but now that you mention it.. I'll try a mix I made with the iced blue and some dead flesh i had over from LOTR. If that doesn't work out well, i'll try your mix.
For the eyes, I saw the tutorial on gw site. But the eyes are so freaking tiny xD. I'll give it a shot anyway, when I find some space in my busy agenda.
So on the schedule: Terminator highlights and eyes, terminator sergeant (maybe change of powersword color), rest of termies, tactical marines and last but not least, the Captain!
Get back to you guys soon! G.

Yeah, the reason might be that I want to show my work too quick. xD But, When the photos are online, I adjust some details most of the time. Because when I see something, that's very obvious with the bare eye, I really hate it and have to fix it immediately. Sometimes I just take 1 minute to change something when I see it. But, yeah more detail will come automatically in the future. The thick paint is probably cause I used some paint from the beginner painting set. Now i'm starting to use more new pots, so it should get better. especially the chaos black base wasn't as good as the pot so yeah.
Thanx, I'll try to watch out more when I paint and take some more time! G.

liking it, looks clean and crisp like a ultramarine would, only issue ihave is the bases, even if your going for a rocky kinda look i would mix it into some sand first when you base it so there are no gaps showing the base and then can simply drybrush up from there

Heyhey guys, I found some space to paint. Not really that much so I just did the helmet of the terminator, together with some white dots in his eyes. I quite like the highlights, the eyes not so much when you watch them very close.
I really think it's finished now. It wasn't my painting-day today, I kept messing up xD. So I don't completely like the result, if you guys agree I might take an other look at it. but from some distance it looks pretty cool.
Oh, and I added some quick gunbarrelholes, same with my dreadnought, but I'll probably make them better too.
In a few days i'll start on the rest of my termi sergeant.

Awesome work, the only way is up from here on in. Careful you've caught the painting bug your skills will constantly improve the more you push yourself the faster you learn. If you keep your level of enthusiasm in a years time you will look back and say wow, I have come along way! I love seeing this kind of thing on the forums it makes me all Paternal and proud.

Good work, son. Keep making me proud!
PS: add a streak of orange to the lower rim of the targeting lens above your termie's head, and a tiny dot of white in the upper "corner" of the circle to make it more lensy/gem-like.

First off, Courage and Honor brother! I'm impressed with the progression in your technique! Keep up the good work.
My only quibble is that the Ultramarine veterans wear white helmets, not light blue. So it looks a little odd to me...

Thanx! I'll probably do that when they're finished or when I get the chance to buy some orange paint. :p
