They are not pressed for people at all. I don't know about the Army, but I know the Air Force isn't recycling people anymore. If you mess up at flight school or other job related training, you're pretty much done. Likewise, the Navy is kicking people out that fail flight school (in the past they would be dropped to backseater training).

Wow, It was only a couple of years ago when I got out and they were really pushing the Blue to Green program or whatever it was called. The army was trying to get end of enlistment Navy personnel to sign up. I thought they must be pretty damned desperate for that.

BTW, if you can breath and manage not to chew on the keyboard during the exam your going to get at least a 30 on the ASVAB

Just make sure whatever you want is in writing..twice. Maybe even three times.

Signed,
The guy who just wanted to be a tank gunner and ended up NBC because my ASVAB score was too "high" and had to join 2nd Force Recon to get away from Gas Masks.

As a interesting side note the Marine's have no Commissioned Officers in the NBC(nuclear biological chemical warfare) field, only WO's I got to see the most rare of beasts WO5's plenty of times.

Nope, the Army is actually down-sizing.

Maybe you hang out with immature women. Maybe you're attracted to immature women because you think they'll let you shpadoink them.

Thats pretty interesting. Same thing happened to my buddies wife. She wanted to be an MP, but she was 'overqualified' so they sent her to the Army Chem Corps or whatever its called. Shes in the Recon unit of a CBRN troop, but has managed to switch career fields to MP.

Also had no idea about the only WO's in the NBC field, wonder what the reasoning for that is... I'm personally not convinced that WO5's really exist, but thats just me... keep in mind I have an AF background (thus far), they dont have WO's at all anymore, and have never had a WO5 in the history of the organization.

That's bull. They just can't switch you from the MOS you contract into to another unless you wash out of the training or something along those lines. I knew a guy with a 99 ASVAB who went in as a rifleman, 0311 if I remember correctly.

Edit: I've only seen one W-5, a Marine Gunner at Camp Pendleton. I know my dad worked with a couple before he retired, but he was a brigade s3. You really don't see them outside of battalion+ staff.

In my buddies case, she was talked out of MP and agreed to sign into Chem, not realizing what she was getting into, but she also had an evil recruiter that ended up getting court-martialed for his actions.

The longest training session in the army takes a little less then a year and the Warrant Officer program isn't it.

Slightly off topic, but this isn't true. Linguist training for CAT 4 languages is 63 weeks for language training and an additional 12-20 weeks for AIT.

When I made that comment I was refering just to AIT the longest of which only lasts a little under a year. My uncle is a E7 Air Force Linguist that started out Army but switched over and who is actually getting ready to be deployed so I know how long their language training takes lol.

f.

I actually ended up as a 0321, how they worked it was I "requested" tank gunner and apparently I left 2 open "request spots" on the contract. They filled in in one of my requests with NBC. Now this was back in the day as well.
