You have no idea what you're talking about. There's the 10% GST (which doesn't apply when importing minis yourself until you get over the $1k mark), but that's it.

I'm assuming exchange rates and the costs of shipping what is essentially fresh air to Oz may also be an issue too?

It would be interesting to compare other British manufactured products against GW product if there is anything comparable stocked Australia.

Exchange rates are great (about 1.6 AUD to the pound), and I can get miniatures from Maelstrom at 10-17.5% below UKRRP with free shipping.

It would be interesting to compare other British manufactured products against GW product if there is anything comparable stocked Australia.

It's not just GW stuff that gets the horrible surcharge - the GaleForce 9 bonesaw costs about 50% more than it should at my local hobby store, for example.

LOL... what idiot buys AUS GW RRP?

We buy mainly from online discounters: Maelstrom, Wayland and some local suppliers who get us 20% off for Direct Only items.

Poor aussies.. I made some conversions about how much people pay for their GW stuff. Space Marine battle force in different countries in euros...

UK 60,71€ (51£)
USA 66,67€ (90$)
Finland 80€
Canada 80,18€ (108$)
Sweden 83,80€ (750kr)
New Zealand 100,23€ (177$)
Australia 110,29€ (150$)

Quite a price difference around the world. Maybe they should raise the prices in UK and US and lower the prices for rest of the world?

They already raised the prices recently, as GW's economic masterminds finally realised that they were over-valuing the GBP...

Noone ever accused GW of actually knowing how to run a business.

This is not entirely correct. GST (10% of the total value of the import, including shipping) and Customs Duties (0-10% of the value of the goods) both apply to anything over the thousand dollar mark. There are also other costs for getting clearances processed, customs inspections, and of course container shipping and storage.

If GW Oz imports mini in batches of under $1000 at a time, I would be a little surprised...

Having said that, the difference in Australia's prices isn't solely due to the costs involved in shipping the minis halfway around the world. The exchange rate for GW's prices was set back in the 90's, and they haven't bothered to update it as the Aus dollar started to climb...

You know what's sad? I should be incredulous at the assertion that a multinational corporation hasn't revised their currency exchange model in over a decade, but when the company in question is GW, I can't even muster a shrug of the shoulders.

At least GW hasnt pulled LEGO's level of shenanigans. When I was collecting Bionicle there was an interm period when the Canadian dollar matched the US dollar. When the Canadian retailers got pissy about their higher prices, LEGO responded by upping the US prices to match it instead of lowering the Canadian prices. When the US dollar became stronger than the Canadian dollar, instead of lowering the US price, they upped the Canadian price!

Also the UK price will include the sales tax (VAT) whereas in some of the other locations it will not.

Getting pretty tired of the Canadian dollar being stronger than the US one right now and still paying more for everything even before the sales tax is applied. If my UK bank didn't screw me for every transfer, I'd be converting my CADs to GBPs and ordering from the UK even more.

Why I am glad GW charges ridiculous prices for little plastic toys-

When I go to my local gamestore saturday tourney, I don't have to worry about being bracketed with three screaming 9 year olds.

Friends of mine have this problem with their pokemon hobby. Thats the problem with $5 a booster pack.

Personally, I'd be surprised if they charged more/the same for minis in GB as elsewhere, what with them not having to ship them anywhere.

Lay off the Aussies.

it's not like the Criminals shipped there were the really bad ones. it was mostly petty criminals and thieves.

the real bad ones were kept in England. being sent to Australia might have been a nice thing, especially if you were poor and needed to steal to survive.
