My problem with him is it's always one more thing. Reading the book for the first time, this is what goes through the head.

"Whoah, look at those stats. That's crazy, what is he a primarch? Wait, he's a psyker too?...with three powers a turn!? Let me check those out. Oh holy crap, he can fly? S 10 attacks? Wait, why is he fleet? Oh and he has another psychic power that isnt a psychic power that lets him reroll hit and wounds against one of the two classes of units that have a shot at fighting him one on one? And why is he fleet again?!?

Abaddon may be killy, but he ain't mobile. Same deal with the Swarmlord, and those are really the only two characters that are roughly in Mephy's league. Add to that the fact that there are entire armies without any psychic defenses and.... yeah.

not to mention Meph costs less than Abaddon or the swarm lord.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

The only thing that makes me mad is Mephiston is stronger than Marneus Calgar, and he is THE head-honcho.

All is forgiven if repaid in Traitor's blood.

This made my night thank you Fafnir, you're awesome!

Wouldn't Wyches hold him if they packed Shardnets, and Succubus with agonizer to wipe the floor with his pointy teeth?

Interesting thought about the GKs, I'm now wondering if Meph being overpowered and FOTM is totally intentional? I guess we will soon find out. If the new GK codex contains an IC that can comfortably beat Meph 1v1 then I would guess it's intentional.

Tailoring the top IC of your brand new product to be a bit better than the last products top IC seems like it would make sound marketing sense and be a way of appealing to a lot of people that like to field the FOTM 'best' armies.
A Meph beating IC, a nice battle writeup in WD where Meph gets nuked, and it's a clever way of getting people on the bandwagon (and buying stuff) without skewing the general game balance too much...

Or am I just being cynical?...

Why not make a list of units, with roughly the same points and usually fielded, able to kill him?

Naturally this only works in certain situations, the battlefield is dinamic, so you need to account for that.

Deamons - Skulltaker

15 Flesh Hounds

Keeper of secrets

BloodThirster//blessing of the blood god would help but that makes him above the 250 points

CSM - 3 Oblits twin linked rapid fire plasma guns //deep strike them?

5 Termies with combi plasma //deep strike, not that usual

5 chosen with plasma guns// probably not that usual

5 plagues on a rhino with combi plasma and plasma guns

I'm talking about the current codex. You know, that one that's almost a decade old now.

Made my day with this quote.

Anyway, OT: People get annoyed by him because he's pretty much a Daemon Prince on a 25mm base, that can move like jump infantry. He's easy to hide and will get to your lines unless you devote significant firepower to take him down. Nothing that a Plasma CCS can't take care of, but he's one nasty bugger. He will wreck most units in assault (although massive blobs, most notably a 30-man Ork mob will take wounds, then slap him silly with a Powerklaw).

Yes he can. You can take an honour gaurd for every HQ unit in a Blood Angels army. They do not have to be attached or be able to be attached to it at all.

So yes, both Mephiston and the Sanguinor allow you to take a squad of Honour Gaurd, although they may not join them.

My Eldar have it easy .

A Farseer with Runes of Warding tucked away somewhere will really give Mephiston a headache. Hes looking at around a 37% chance to suffer perils (and ~50% fail chance) every time he casts. tee hee.

Mephiston is still an incredible threat, even without his psychic powers to aid him. He may not be able to fight at his full strength with his psychic powers limited like that, but he's definetly not castrated.

Not to mention that with the amount of wounds he has, I wouldn't be too scared to use his powers when I felt he really needed them.

WE have some guy that likes to run him and get pretty cocky with him him from time to time.

Tau do a pretty darn good job at killing him before he kills anything but kroot bubble wraps.

Fire Knife squad with markerlight suppot do very very well. Broadsides if needed ofc.

With my Nids, I've had good lick with gaunts and homorgaunts, just grinding him down+ tieing him up. Broodlord and genestealers do amazingly well plus getting that SITW assisting just makes it easy.

Once I got him with Doom, due to a bad driftt plus my opponent rolling 6,6,5 and going splat.
