I'm perpetually lacking in the motivation department, hence my horribly sluggish painting. I don't have one go-to solution that always gets me back in the groove, though. Sometimes, I just start back up again after a few weeks, naturally. Other times, I just need to force myself to start.

I paint in small batches (usually 3-6 figs, depending on complexity), so putting in half an hour or less here and there doesn't really do much to move them along. If I can force myself to put in a good hour or so after I've been putzing around for a while, suddenly they seem that much closer to completion and the desire to finish takes over.

With Ork Boys, for example, I spend way more time on the straps and gubbins and fiddly bits than on the skin, but finishing the skin looks like such a big step towards completion that I often have models sitting basecoated for a month that get finished within a few days of starting on the skin, even though that last burst accounted for probably 80% of the work. Is that fast? No. Is it an improvement? Exponentially.

I'm currently in the middle of painting roughly 36 million Skaven, and to stop myself from going insane, I've been doing two Space Marines for every unit I've batch painted or larger model I've done. Painting something that is totally different to what you've been doing is a great way to keep things from getting tedious, allowing you to preserve momentum on the project.
