Yes, we've all noticed your posts but, bless, you do your best and you are trying.

I do my best! I'll post like
Ooh,I have a great idea! How about if you DISCONNECT VITAL ASSETS FROM THE FETHING INTARNETZ! How about if you hire people smart enough not to be phished? How about if you put a policy in place that you can only give info to people you actually know, in person if necessary?
How about if you arbitrarily and randomly place a 1000% tax on some Chinese imports until the shenanigans stop? How about if we laser down their satellites until the shenaningans stop? Blame it on sun spots - they're all the rage right now. Say our death ray got hacked and it was used to kill their satellites by angry American hackers? Soorryz! Thet iz the suxxorz, Chinaz! R badz!
more often. Y'know, to make you feel better.

But that's not necessarily good hacking... as much as it is a hacker making a political statement or something to that effect.

Yes, CT Gamer - because this is still America, and you can say what you want. No one dies if somebody says something mean about where they were born. It's really time we got over the idea that no one is allowed to offend anyone, ever.

Free speech does not apply in internet spaces because the internet is not "public". The rules as laid out by the dakka signup agreement take supremacy. That said, the mods are extremely laid back sometimes so you can often say some pretty awful gak without them taking notice. Other times you sneeze and they'll ban everyone within 50 feet of it.
Kinda depends on whose on

Sure people are criticizing China, but I'm pretty sure that if people of any color were hacking into US computers there would be some cross words about it. I don't think this is racially motivated.

I think the "Nuke em, Rico." is about as close as it got. TBH even if he was joking I'm not too comfortable with any race being compared to insects (even if they are really cool big man-eating ones).

Got it.
Thanks for the clarification.
Good to know for future reference.
.. what racist statement has been made here then ?
I'm of the opinion that the Starship troopers quote was not meant to be some racial slur comparing the Chinese to insects, but more (yet another) lazy and knee jerk post -- like the old " nuke the site from orbit...etc etc " -- that gets posted in almost every thread in which things are discussed. hell GWHQ has been threatened or sanctioned with nuclear annihilation more often that the human mind can recall.
Now, if posters were coming with " wut we should do is invade and kill them all cuz they is evul and yellow skinned and and etc etc we're number 1 !!!! " and threw in a load of "jokes" to do stereotypes about the Chinese or Asians then yeah, that wouldn't be acceptable.
And it would not be acceptable even if they threw an "amusing" emoticon on the end of it.
... but that's not what happened.
Various people responded back with thoughts to the effect that "we" should strike back in the same sort of way -- and I agree with the earlier post suggesting that "we" in all probability already are/do.. even if we don't hear about it.
Aside from that there were ideas suggested that included the imposition of taxes and perhaps the attacking of Chinese satellites. Sure the style they were presented in was exaggerated in style and format.... but that's hardly uncommon is it ?
So, if you disagree with said ideas then, you know, argue against them. Put forth why this would be a bad idea, or what we should do instead.
Or, if you think a poster has stepped over the line and is posting offensive things then hit the alert button --- that's much more likely to have an affect than a couple of poorly thought snarky couplets that contribute nothing to the genesis of any debate on the topic to hand.
I've every faith in you all.

If you mean that in the sense that the America that was is gone - I disagree, and do what I can to reawaken it.
If you mean, no - this is the internet and people on this board are from all over the place - of course. I was referring to where the board, and my post in particular, originated.
Other than that, I agree - there's no racism to be seen here, except by those that insist on seeing it everywhere.

It is lame when people whack their e-penises against the keyboard and fantasise about fighting another country who might have been involved in a hacking operation, but it isn't racism. The people talking about retaliating with this bit of nonsense or that would be doing it regardless of the ethnicity of the accused nation.
And yes, freedom of speach is important, but this is a private board and the owners have every right to tell you what you can and can't say. And while the logical end of free speach means that the rest of us have to put up with stupid or obnoxious speach, that doesn't mean anyone should revel in the opportunity to be as stupid or obnoxious as possible.

Actually, I think that he was referring to the fact that the internet isn't a place, doesn't fall under free speech laws, and you're posting on an international message board.

There are only two ways to take this. The first is that the chinese are bugs. This is the clear intention, regardless of whats back pedaled after. The second is "nuke it from orbit" which involves nuking the chinese. Not much better. I'm having a hard time finding something that isn't insulting. Seriously. There is nothing. I got banned for calling a thread "trivial" a few weeks back and yet you're defending this. It's pretty mind numbing.

There is a middle way; It is called "Lighten up, Francis."
And here you are trying to derail the thread, and here I am being drawn into the silliness anyway. I really can't help myself.

There wasn't a whole lot of thread to derail, the replies were pretty similar to what I expect on youtube. I'm more annoyed at the incredibly random interpretation and enforcement of the forum rules here then I am at their actual violation in any case.
Do you think maybe you're making a bigger deal out of this than is necessary?
Obnoxious frivolity can be pretty destructive to forums. It's why they have spam rules (which I violated).

People claiming the freedom of speach as an entitlement to be stupid is something I take seriously.

Are you doing that on purpose?
Anyway, what's your end game here? People said some things you disagree with and you have stated this. Do you think you're going to change someone's mind?

I'm hoping that maybe people start to think that just because they have the right to say something doesn't mean that it is something that needs to be said.
Sometimes it works. I know this, because at one point it worked on me.

No, seriously, any persuasive enough argument made to any thinking person will change their mind - or at least cause them to really think about their position. They may not admit that you were right, but ideas take time to germinate. Realization may come day, weeks, or years later - but it happens.
