But that's the point, from a Dark Eldar perspective. Dangerous pets are just so much more THRILLING, and handling one makes a statement about your power and badass-itude.
Exactly, and since I doubt the Hive Mind can penetrate the webway them reverting back to it's control should be a problem. Without it, they are simply beasts, and any beast can be taught to follow the carrot or run away from the stick. With Dark Eldar I imagine it would be the stick.
Also, who is claiming that Hormogaunts reproduce?

Thanks I'll check that when I have the chance. Can't see a real reason for the Hive Mind to have its front-rank troop to reproduce.

Tyranids also have an extreme tendancy to mutate into something else. A relatively simple organism may mutate in order to breed more of its kind, they're just too unstable to be used in war or kept in mass.

surely if a synapse critter was captured the DE would plant a implant to break the bond with the hive mind... and then the critter would proberly evolve away from the original design...

But synapse creatures are usually massive, and extremely aggressive. I doubt a carnifex would make a good pet. I also doubt its mind could be enslaved by the DE. If the Dark Eldars get their hands on a big synapse creature, they would probably keep it for big, spectacular executions or gladiator fights. A bit like this scene from Star Wars:

"How many more worlds do we sacrifice? How many more millions or billions do we betray before we turn and fight?" - attributed to Captain Leoten Semper of Battlefleet Gothic - Gothic War, the evacuation of Belatis.
If commanding a Titan is a measure of true power, then commanding a warship is like having one foot on the Golden Throne - Navy saying. |

carnifexs are not synapse... they are as thick as two short planks
