Awful song.
I have seen it live, mind, and it was a spectacular moment.

I sense this is all really misplaced anger over the White Stripes breaking up.

Why couldn't he just marry his sister like any normal American and keep the band going?!

It is good news that you are misdirecting anger?
Or that the White Stripes broke up? If the latter it doesn't really make a huge difference since Jack White still has two other bands: the Dead Weatherman and The Raconteurs.

That they broke up. That pony wore out it's trick a l oooooong time ago, bub. Note that I say this as a person who enjoyed their early output.
Seen them live? They were pretty good as I recall, though it was a long time ago. He's certainly got presence.

Albatross wrote:I mean, it's a matter of taste I suppose - but as far as I'm concerned, Kid A ranks in the top 3 Radiohead records. It's that good. Seriously, dig it out and give it another listen, man.
Don't worry about me not listening to it enough, I've probably spun it about a dozen times this year, and it's one of my least favourite Radiohead albums.
I'd say the only two songs that I really love on that record are How to Disappear Completely and Everything in its Right Place, with Idioteque coming close. There's other tracks, like The Pyramid Song and The National Anthem that I really liked when it first came out, but I'm just not that crazy on now. They're okay, but a little one note for repeated listening. Then there's all those skippable tracks like Treefingers.
Compare it to In Rainbows, which I think has a bigger number range of great songs, and just hangs together better as a record. The weaker tracks are still worth their place and worth listening to.
15 Step
Bodysnatchers
Nude
Weird Fishes/Arpeggi
All I Need[/b[
[b]Faust Arp
Reckoner
House of Cards
Jigsaw Falling into Place
Videotape
Again, this is all a matter of opinion.
Definitely. And in my case, it's the opinion of a hopeless fanboy who's been a fanboy since The Bends came out, so it's worth even less than your average opinion.
I think this is shown in the desolate nature of the recording; a sense of space created in the production by essentially leaving the piano chords hang in space. This is emphasised by the synth (it's probably not as simple as that, but hey...) pads in the background, and the unsettling time signature, which incidentally is reminiscent of 'Pyramid Song'. I would put money on Yorke owning several Thelonious Monk LPs.
I know Yorke has said a few times that he's a poor piano player, and he tries to use his simplistic technique to the band's advantage, repeating simple structures to create the effect you've suggested. I haven't heard this record so I'm not making any comment on it, but wow that's harsh. Comparing anything to Coldplay is just, well, brutal. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ahtman wrote:It is good news that you are misdirecting anger?

That's the thing. He's still prolific as ever, so all it really means is that we won't see much more of Meg White. I'm not really sure that's all that big a loss to the drumming community.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Why Meg White Matters
Also, I have now had "The Air That I Breathe" stuck in my head since first reading this thread.

@sebster - See, you've put 'House of Cards' but not 'Nude'...
That's a weird choice right there.
