Lord Comm is an individual character in itself and counts as a HQ choice.....I'd rather have a CCS take up a HQ slot that can issue orders and then include a comm in it

That's actually been the bane of choppy CCSs even since the old codex: someone is always an independent character. In the last codex, it was the officer, in the new codex its either the priest or the commissar.

That's why I was trying the choppy PCS. Two hidden power fists. Of course, neither of them are WS5, both are W1, and after things settle down, they only get 4 attacks, but usually this is enough, if you're not rolling poorly.

Cool report!

Your army looks great as usual.

Man, I seriously want to send you guys a GW battle mat or something so you don't have to play on bare wood!

Yeah, definitely need some better terrain/tables there.

Maybe for your next league the group could collect a minimal fee for terrain / table upgrades.

At my house, I have a double sided 4x8 that cost me maybe $10 to make. Some spray for a base coat, some poster paint for details and sand from your back yard or flock to enhance it. Gave me a mars planet and foresty/river board.

I've actually got a few spare battlemats, I could just send Ailaros one.

Actually, the league already collects fees, theoretically to get more terrain in the future. Haven't seen any action on that yet, though. . . This tournament was pretty bad with terrain, sadly. I'm not sure if it was just set up too quickly or what. There just wasn't enough LOS blocking going on. I'm a huge fan of terrain actually tall enough to give you cover, instead of declaring "this hill is now area terrain" in order to get enough coverage.

Also, I'll point out that Ailaros is partial to certain fences and other terrain pieces when it's time to set up tables. . . you can see the same ones often in his reports.

Look at your comment. Back to mine. Back to yours NOW BACK TO MINE. Sadly, it isn't mine. But if you stopped trolling and started posting legitimate crap it could LOOK like mine. Look down, back up, where are you? You're scrolling through comments, finding the ones that your comment could look like. Back at mine, what is it? It's a highly effective counter-troll. Look again, MY COMMENT IS NOW DIAMONDS.

Anything is possible when you think before you comment or post.

I'm on a computer.

Lol. It's time for an Armored Gopher Battlefield Improvement drive!

We do actually collect league and tournament fees, but they are predominantly used in the form of cash pay-outs to people who win leagues and tournaments. If I win the league I'm in (which will be determined by the results of the next game I play), I'll consider seeing if I can get the store manager to use some of my store credit prize money on a couple of battle mats.

What are some good ones? I'd hate to get something only to see it start curling up on the edges...

The GW mat is really good, you just have to roll it to get the creases out.

Zuzzy mats though, are the best, IMO. They require dry-brushing but man do they look sweet.

Yeah, I'll admit. I'm TOTALLY biased towards my own terrain. It's not that I think they'll give me some particular advantage, it's just that they're of odd shapes and sizes that you don't normally see.

Plus, I find it's all too easy to have a board willed with 25% terrain, but only made up of like 5 or 6 pieces. It's nice to have a little more clutter, as it makes for nicer close-in pictures.

I really should get on making some more of it, though...

Knowing my FLGS, they'd likely get rolled up and stuffed in a terrain bin for 6 nights out of the week, do they wind up with a bias over time? We have some road terrain that's in the form of a long strip, but I never use them because they're impossible to lay flat any more.

The zuzzy mats lay totally flat, but they are a bit delicate. They are latex and will tear easily if mistreated.

Sabol mats look brilliant but they curl. If you have some clips (th eblack metal one for clipping big stacks of paper) you can clip the edges down when playing that that will solve the problem for the most part.

Also what my group here does for city boards: if you have a smooth surfaced board (like hard board), hold spray cans high above it and spray patches of color on it. With grays, whites and blacks, it makes a pretty good looking city board.
