This is the interwebs. Freaking out over rumors and OTT speculation is par for the course.

Where did you hear that?

Apparently the claim was made in the most recent Eternal Warriors podcast. But I'm not downloading a 100 megabyte audio file just to find out if they actually demonstrated the proof of their claim.

Shadow Fields give a 2+ invul, but as far as I know, the staves don't 'break' which, IMO, is really OP.

We've had 3+ and 2+ invuls since 3rd edition. C:WH.

Still, they had a month or two to tweak.

I really doubt that a version as ugly as the pdf was what their current version was as of Jan 2011. I mean, from what I recall of previous rumor threads of past codices, someone (maybe reds8n, maybe someone else) said it took about 3 months between the book being finalized to it going out on shelves. I might be mixing that with the BL thread though, as I couldn't find any record when I went back and searched.

The only "ugly" thing about it was the quality of the scan and all the handwritten notes in the margin. Aside from missing artwork and page reference numbers, the pdf is identical to a finished codex.

Eye of Terra.

I don't mean to be rude, but I have to ask, why do people get upset when a new codex comes out?

Isn't it always a foregone conclusion that GW uses "codex creep" as a method to create the new super-uber in order to sell more plastic and metal men?

They are, after all is said and done, a miniatures company.

Do we all still pine for fairness when the object is to sell more figures?

I mean, this methodology has been going on for many, many years.

I don't understand.

There is stll 0 evidence it was from January except the fact that was when the PDF was created.
Also, the fact it was in the codex format (which I am 100% sure is a set of templates) doesn't mean it was even close to finished rules wise. It only makes sense to have the main text in the proper template while playtesting/refining is still going on, that way you can make a small sets of changes until you get the final (which may be after 2 changes or 50, who knows) and then go directly to print. It's not like the extra black ink from printing the extraneous stuff is much of an impact. Besides, playtesting/rules refining, even at GW, is likely the second longest phase of development (after model sculpting) purely because you actually have to play some games of 40k; it is also likely the last phase.

I fully intend to collect a GK army regardless of what the codex ends up looking like, I just am hoping some of the obvious abuses are cleared up or toned down. Despite what many people have said, I don't think the army in its current form is over-powered or under-powered, but there are abuses (Chim/Rback spam, Lazermonkey spam, etc.) and I hope those are clarified or removed before it goes to print (0-4 per band limit on monkeys, henchman bands as troops cannot take a Dedicated Transport, etc.)

I'm sure it is a set of templates. The whole argument about how much time it would take to fake such a thing was faintly amusing. Without templates, yeah - takes a bit of effort.

WITH the templates, a snap. GW could have handed the templates to an office intern and said, "Make up the ridiculous gak you can imagine. Use this template. Leak it tomorrow."

I think that would be both hysterical, and awesome.

Mostly because "codex creep to sell models" is a bit overblown. While it is obvious they introduce new units that are better then old units to sell models, this happens even with new codices that aren't horribly overpowered, like Nids and Dark Eldar.
With the exception of Nids, I think people are misinterpreting the huge jump in "Power" from 4th edition as "New codex = most powerful" when the reality is "4th edition, low power; 5th edition, High Power". It's just such a dramatic shift, coupled with such delayed release schedules, that its much easier to simply brand the newest codex the most powerful, instead of realizing it is simply joining the ranks of the powerful, ie. 5th edition, codices. Theoretically, when all armies have a 5th edition codex, we should see a very tightly packed group, with some obvious winners (like IG) and some obvious losers (like Nids) but all of them within the same general band of power level.

Ahhh HAHAHAA

On a side note....having not read this pdf....what is the status of The Inquisition and is there any "allies" section?

I do not discriminate....all races are equally worthless....

Inquisition is surprisingly well represented, but also represents the most easily abused portion of the codex. Allies are gone, gone, gone.

For those who say Pure GK will lack Anti-Armor: Psycannons may be strength 7, so they're essentially autocannons (which are win). Multi-meltas (and lascannons) can be taken on Storm Ravens and Dreadnoughts.

I'm pissed that the new dread rules STILL don't support my FW model's arms. STILL the Sonic weaponry and now this. I Salute you GW. Thank you for making me pay extra for cooler models that don't have rules, and that still cannot be used in tournaments.

-How many points should a Psycannon Cost on a Dreadnought?
-How many points should the Nemesis Force Weapon on arm cost Instead of the Nemesis Doomfist?
-How many points does it cost to either replace the storm bolter with a heavy flamer and give it Psyflame ammo, or to just replace the storm bolter with an Incinerator?

This frustrates me.

edit

Also, how much does a sonic blaster on a chaos dread cost?
or for that matter, a doom siren?
