I thought Cold Blooded let them roll a third dice for leadership tests? Doesn't that affect stupidity?

Yes, but no amount of extra dice can help out when bad luck rolls in

Good God, I never thought I'd say this before, but the inhabitants of this board seem to have a talent for terrible dice rolls. Maybe that's what drove them here.

I'm not too bad for rolls, but with Lizardmen, who seem based in solid, reliable units, I'd rather keep that uncertainty out.

7th Edition. Used my Slann in 4 games. 3 Out of the 4 games ended in him blowing himself up thanks to a miscast around Turn 2/3. One of the games I couldn't get the FAQ up for reference so my opponent called BS when I said Cupped Hands could be used against snake eyes on the miscast table. The other two I failed my cupped hands rolls. The only game he survived without miscasting was one where every single attack possible whiffed against a Keeper of Secrets on 2 wounds (thanks to Chameleons) from my Temple Guard, and my Slann caused 1 more wound with Sword of Rhuin before failing a Cold-Blooded Ld9 break check and was run down by the KoS.
Yeah...

You failed a cupped hands roll TWICE CONSECUTIVELY?!
I would honestly be waiting for lightning to strike me if I was that unlucky.

I've missed 2 Throne of Vines miscast saves in a row before... bad luck happens, not even the Old Ones can protect you.
Personally I love having Temple Guard in my army. I almost always have some, with or without a Slann. In 1000 pts I run a small unit of 10 next to my Saurus for flanking. They bring some serious hurt, and with WS4, T4, and 4+ save (and Iceshard) they are hard to kill for most infantry. I also love the models
Scar-vet BSBs are also good investments. They're very survivable, can bring the pain themselves, and allow you to re-roll your cold-blooded leadership, which is never a bad thing. At 1000pt though you'll won't really be able to take one unless you make your general a bare-bones Old Blood (also not a bad idea).

They don't need to be bare-bones, mine is:
Saurus Oldblood w/ Sword of the Hornet, Armour of Destiny, Bane Head
That's at 1000pts and i've still got 15pts left in my Lords choice.
You could even cut the armour down, take the weapon down to Gold-Sigil Sword and remove the bane head and he'd still be effective.

For cheap oldbloods Halberd/GW Armour of Destiny and Dawnstone does it for me, throw in a BSB and/or a priest and all you need now is a sallie a saurus block and maybe a unit of camos/skinkmishers.

I run the same Old-blood, Hoverboy, and he does wonders. 5 S7 Attacks, T5, 2+ Armor and 4+ Ward makes him nigh unkillable to infantry. Sometimes I'll throw on the Sword of Striking so that he's hitting most models on a 2+, wounding on 2+, with -3 to armor... he can usually take out an entire rank by himself.
I've also had a lot of fun with ranked up Skinks. I usually run 20, with a Kroxigor and a Skink Chief with Potion of Strength. It's a nasty little unit that has the tools to handle almost any opponent, and it's not too expensive. Including the Chief the whole block runs in at about 220-ish points, and it almost always makes up it's cost in killing power.

In a half dozen games I've never had Cupped Hands WORK...

Cirronimbus, where are you getting 2+ armour save from? He has 4+ scaly skin, 4+ ward from armour of destiny and rerolls from dawnstone. I don't see anything about 2+ armour.

Just like Crazy Carnifex said, you can also still give him a shield and make it a 1+, although I usually don't, but that's mostly because I use my Chakax model to represent him and it looks like he's holding a great weapon.
