1500 - 2000, anything above tends to get overpowered in one direction (SW, IG) much too quickly

1750 is a good spot, as it lets you take enough fun stuff but you cant have *everything* you want - you have to make some hard choices.

1500 - 2000 is where we play most and is good on an 4' X 8' table giving plenty of room to wrestle.

My Son and I enjoy really large Planet Strike games too of between 2K - 3K.

Biggest factor to us is: Time available to play then Table Size.

Most often we play each day he visits so leaving a big game set up at night and finishing in the morning happens too!!!

With the right armies and attitude 500 - 700 can be fun and quick and we do these sometime to lead to an ever growing escalation series of games.

My favorites being my Marines, (The Righteous) and my sons Orks.

I enjoy 1k to 2k games.

I enjoy the 1250 to 1750 range the most.

At 2000 points, you get to put an expensive squad on the board and still have enough left over in case it eats it.

More than that, the games take too long. Less than that, I get too defensive with my army.

My FLGS pretty much sticks to 2,000 points, and it can be a little hard to get something different as everyone kind of expects this size of game. We play on 5x5 tables, which kind of messes with some of the dynamics of set-up (in a fun way!), and with that extra foot between you and your opponent the table "feels" bigger even though it isn't that much larger square-footage wise.
