The main burden of using the RT era models is that you might end up explaining to someone that, yes, this model which is older than they are is indeed a GW model. But the RT era Plague Marines should be recognizable as plague marines, so you should be fine. (Unlike some of the Tzeentch models with their 2nd edition Flamer lower bodies...)

Just be careful if you get any of the heavy weapon models with the discontinued weapon options like Multi-Melta's and Plasma Cannons.

I re-based my old Terminators on 40mm bases but, technically, that would make them illegal as those aren't the bases they came with.

If anyone actually cared (other than to appreciate it and congratulate/thank you for updating), you could always claim to have gotten them secondhand with the 40mms included.

OH another question just popped into my head that is semi-related to this thread. If I have a thousand son marine and he is completely a thousand son marine, except for his head (i.e. shoulder pads are tzentch he has the cloth drapped from the waist and the chest is tzentch) could that be used as a WYSIWYG type deal as a thousand son?

I'm actually wondering what would happen if I fielded a mini-avatar at a tournament. Do you think he'd have to have a LoS checking pole attached to his base? It's a pretty big difference. Way bigger than the terminator base sizes.

I've never played in a tournament, but I did field an older terminator with AoBR terminators because it had a heavy flamer in a casual game. Aesthetically not so pleasing, and the dude is smaller to boot, but that's about all I could say about it.
