I take it you ran that list with the two tervi's as HQ choices?

No, troops. +2 gaunt units then large units of stealers to fill out the remaining troops choices. Throw in some HG, zoanthropes a prime and a couple of trygons and you are good to go. Though recently I have been looking at dropping the trgons for more stealers.

Wait, don't you mean gants then? You can only take tervis as troops if you have a brood of gants (1:1 ratio thing).

I think you need Termagants to take Tervigons as Troops.

One thing about lictors, or even better deathleaper.

Its fine if they come in late, and EVEN better if you go second.

Why? Contesting, thats why. Sure, a VERY good player my space out units so this won't work, but the ability to place a model EXACTLY where you want is VERY powerful

I used to think Hormagaunts were the way to go, but since I found out Termagants + bigger bugs as back up , I've fallen in love with the insane combos you can stack on them.

Hive Tyrant provides Preferred Enemy with Old Adversary, also paroxysm on the unit that the gants are assaulting will make sure they do quite well.

Tervigon provides the Adrenal Glands + Toxin Sacs , also Catalyst is insane for them giving the gants feel no pain.

Lastly, keep a venomthrope close to keep those gants alive, With their craptacular armor , the cover save the toxin cloud provides the gants is fantastic. Not to mention if somebody charges them while they are under the affects of that toxin cloud, that entire enemy unit needs to make a difficult terrain check

its all about synergy!!
dont think one unit will win anything, 20 gants plus 8 genestealers plus 10 hormies is better than 40 gants or hormies.

That's what he said - he took 2 units of Termaguants so that he could take 2 Tervigons as troops, then took 2 large units of Genestealers to round out his troops choices.

Just a nice combo I read about

I like to use my Venomthrope(s) near any walking Tyrants/'fexes/Warriors I have on the table. They get shot at, their high toughness values and the 5+ venom cloud save and gaunt cover save minimize wounds, and my gaunts generally make it to the enemy with few wounds, if they even get shot at. Instead of using a Tervigon, I drop Devilgants with the aid of my Lictor, dropping z-thrope and a Trygon Prime for synapse and CC coverage. 20 Devourers just tear up infantry. I use one unit of 10 stealers, 2 if we're over 2000 points, and flank with 'em using my free outflank from hive commander.

That said, I think there is value to both methods, the key is that 'gants are useful .
