The combat squad special rule says the decision to split into combat squads as well as which models go into each squad is made when the unit is deployed.
It further says that both squads can be deployed in separate locations.

Well if it specifies seperate locations then I'm all for it. Have to remember that next time I deepstrike my terminators

My point is that GW uses "deploy" in a lot of different ways and the rules are written with the understanding (or lack thereof) tha there is a "Deployment" phase. I would bet money 6th edition has such a thing.
