Well the Necrontyr had all that hate and jealousy, since they pretty much were doomed to die horrible deaths at the end of short lifespans. All of this was due to their star's radiation giving them mega-cancer.

The skeleton thing is probably to enforce that this is the undead fanatsy archetype being transplanted into sci-fi. I always imagined 40k as taking most tropes, whether they be from sci-fi, fantasy, or some other genre, and putting them in space and making them way over the top and grimdark.

Oh damn this is really piquing my necron interest again! can't wait to collect them, eventually, and by the sounds of it with a bit more personality of sorts!

I get that undead fantasy archetype, my thoughts exactly with a bit of terminator (and the matrix in fact) thrown in. But since fluff is reality in the 40k universe, what reason would a race such as the Necrontyr have for creating human shaped vessels 65 million years ago... and don't the leaders of the Necrontyr see their reflection in us? Or are they too far gone in their pursuit of destroying 'life' to really care? Interesting to speculate... or justify. lol, you pick.

I think the shape of the Necrodermis was chosen by the C'tan. Skeletons are simple, uniform, and strike fear into most living people. In the rulebook it says that some Lords have changed their appearnce to whatever they see fit, though in a lot of the books I've read many Lords are described as part Destroyer and part Spyder. I guess these are the "grandiose" forms described in the rulebook. And then there's Scarabs, so we got more bugs, but again that's probably less of a weird obsession with insects and more of a Tomb Kings shout-out.

Or maybe the Necrontyr were way into bones and bugs.

Skeleton bodies make sense as the Necrontyr probably were humanoid, not too different from humans or eldar in shape or size. (That's what I've always imagined)

Also didn't the C'tan sow the seeds of the Pariah gene into humanity? The could have molded humanity in their servants image...?

I like the direction of this fluff, it seems to be staying the course.

I hope they avoid making too many Necron personalities though.
