Shooting heroine might actually be a cheaper hobby than warhammer. Or not.
I know you're joking (probably), but I see this oponion a lot. Wargaming, even
GW wargames, is a pretty economical hobby. For example, I also play video games. Over the last couple of years, I've bought a gaming
PC ($1700au), and about... 20
PC games for it. Assuming an average price of $70au (most games are $90au here, but I get older games too), that's $1400au on games for it. $3100au. I also have a PS3, which was $700au when I got it. I've replaced it once due to the first exploding, which was $500au. I've got about 30 PS3 games, bought at about $100au. That's about $4200 over the last 3-4 years on PS3s and games for it. I also have a PSP, which was $500au, and about 30 games for it at about $60au each. $2300au. I have a Wii, since my fiancee wanted one, with Wii Fit (which admittedly was free with the console). The Wii was $500au, and I have about 20 games at $80au for it. $2100au. I buy a lot of games because I like single player games and I don't like replaying them often.
So over the last 4 years, I've spent about $11700au on my video game entertainment. Holy
fething feth. Since getting back into
40k, I've bought a 1000 point Tyranid army and my fiancee has bought me a Hierophant. That's come to about $800au. It's also something I will use again and again, and not like replace. Once I've hit about 2000 points, my buying will be slowed down to models I just really want and maybe a few units for some different lists.
Even
40k is pretty bloody economical as a hobby.
