If the consumption of the planet requires the Hive Fleet's forces to be Aquatic or semi-aquatic, then the Hive Fleet will adapt. If it's not necessary, there's no point.

Simply put: yes, there can be aquatic Tyranids.

I love this idea simply for the conversion opportunities, idk any background other than logically the hive mind should be able to make nids with gills if they haven't all already adapted to water anyway, the amount there is out there!!

I'm sure they do.

Say they are stuck in a prolonged war, they might have a new aquatic strain to try and catch the enemy off.

My thought is they would not need gills at all. They can just sit in space for fun if they want to. Why not be able to do laps in the ocean without breathing?

Well, a carnifex or a gaunt breathes air IIRC. These bugs can't actually survive in space.

Other tyranid organisms can. These nasties that can survive in 0-G, without any oxygen and in horrible temperatures form the space forces of the hive fleets.

And actually, I think that the tyranid kraken (the only aquatic tyranid I know) descends from the tyranid space kraken. It makes sense since the space kraken would already be naturally adapted for aquatic environments.

If commanding a Titan is a measure of true power, then commanding a warship is like having one foot on the Golden Throne - Navy saying.

Ahh well my mistake, I believed them capable of surviving the vacuum. However (it has been posted before) on Tyran, the tyranids that were not landing directly on Imperial bases were landing in water. Oceans get very deep. Would the Tyranid that were landing in deep water drowning? or did the hive-mind know of the water and send in semi-aquatic carnifexes and gaunts, etc. I know it wouldnt have mattered if they drowned cuz they were just turned back into bio-mass but that is still units lost for the battle taking place.

Hmmm...

Maybe those huge piranhas in this stupid 3d film were tyranids then.
