That's the kind of attitude that scares people away from the hobby. I've been playing it for nearly 20 years (with a small 3 year break) and I've never seen anyone that obsessed with the hobby. It's just that - a hobby. Do it in your spare time, don't make it your life.

This^.

I've seen more cases of hobby burnout with gamers like this, than any other cause.
Those that 'live and breathe' the game, tend to last a couple of years then give up the hobby completely - forever.

A hobby is for life, not just for christmas.

An obsession is the end of your life - for you give control of your life to it.

Ah Kill points vs Victory points again.

There are two distinct scoring systems:

Kill points : 1 point per unit
Victory Points : Points = cost of unit

Annihilation uses Kill points, victory points were used in all previous editions of the game.

Oh and veteran squads are fixed at 10 models.

Regarding your original point about terrain, we use 25% board coverage as described earlier, place one piece in the centre of each table quarter and the table itself, then scatter it D10 inches. Bit complicated but it seems to work.

So why did they switch to kill points?

It just seemed like the best way to get a feel for how much terrain we should use and where to place it, etc. A question about Annihilation: Do you really only get a single kill point for each unit that you destroy, and not a number of points equal to the points cost of the unit? That makes it seem... really unbalanced in favor of space marines and their ilk.

You are correct. That's why Annihilation is, statistically, only played 33% of the time. The other two game types favor armies with more troops and more ways to score/contest.

We usually play with 25-30% coverage and a mix of area, ruins and LOS blocking terrain - which is usually around 7-10 pieces of terrain at my club.

The mix doesn't favour any one army, as it has firelanes AND concealed approaches (but the firelanes will generally converge on where the concealment ends).
