On the original subject, satire is wonderful. It is at funniest and most painful the more true it is.

Like last night, when The Daily Show skewered the president's double-speak about raising taxes, and mocked his use of the Lincoln Memorial (which has no doors) being open as evidence of the positive outcome of compromise on the budget. That had to be painful for Dem cheerleaders. But the points Jon Stewart made were funny, and they were real.

In this thread Republicans have good reason to be discomfited by an article like this, because it cuts to the heart of a difference in fiscal priorities and philosophical views which have real life consequences. People who believe in helping the poor and downtrodden, but support the Republican party anyway, have to reconcile some uncomfortable cognitive dissonance. Have they put selfishness ahead of care for their fellow man?

If people simply don't want to see the deeper issue the satire is about, then they won't. This quoted post is a good example of this
