Drop pod marines want Missile launchers.

their mobility is severly limited after they come down. if the enemy is highly mobile they won't be able to still participate if they take a MM. the Missile launcher can reach accross most of the board and so is better.

and the Threat range of a MM is, realistically, 12"

beyond that, its just an AP1 missile launcher. tanks will begetting out of your 12" super threat range quickly and AV14 will just be laughing your attempts at glances.

Aye, still the ML. I might consider a plasma cannon or las cannon depending on AI or AT work for the squad, but even then, the heavy weapon will not be firing on the turn you pod in, so yet again your special weapons and bolters will be doing the initial and important work, so you have to think on whether or not it's worth it to spend any points at all here.

which is why you stick to the free weapons when possable.

you are podding in, so Melta can take care of high AV tanks.

Missiles is probably the way to go. It is a free, potent anti-infantry and anti-armor weapon.

Thanks for the suggestions, the ML is probably my best bet. My dreads are for AT and AI, so for drop pod, would the plasma be good aganist heavy infantry or maybe a flamer since im nearby the enemy or melta? i want to know your opinions. I'm sorry if im going off topic.

Hey guys, I'm confused about combat squadding.
If I wanted to Combat squad a squad of Ten Marines into 2 of 5, then does the rule entitle them to both be able to ride in razorbacks? are there any restrictions? Does it matter which heavy weapon goes where [eg can I have 1 squad all with bolters and 1 with Plasma gun and Plasma cannon?]
Sorry if I sound daft by asking this, but im confused D:

thanks

You combat squad your marines at deployment and you only get 1 razorback, because you bought only 1 at army selection. Any of the 2 combat squads can ride in it.

There are no restrictions on the placement of the heavy/special weapon.

@Alkasyn Thanks alot. But say if I had 2 razorbacks at deployment, can the combat squads use both of them?

no, read the rules for dedicated transports. They can only start the game with the units they were purchased for. You can later get in, but can't start the game embarked in a transport that isn't purchased for that squad.

The only time an army should contain a heavy bolter is when the choice is between nothing and a heavy bolter.

They are simply the worst heavy weapon Imperial armies can take. That being said, they aren't a terrible weapon, just in comparison. So if you can take heavy bolter sponsons, or when your vehicles just come with them, bully.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Not necessarily true, I run 2 HB in my Sternguard Veterans and I'm fairly happy with what I get.

A razorback can only be bought as an " upgrade " to a squad. You cannot buy an empty razorback.
