Recent studies suggest that death is a 100% cure for life.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

If people can smoke 2-3 packs a day and not get cancer or COPD bad enough to need oxygen for 50 years or so I think a little dust will be ok.

No, you don't grind them up and snort them.... you melt them down in an old spoon, put them in a syringe, and just inject them directly.

Ok so, do you guys really think that GW would produce a cancer causing resin?!
I smoke 15 to 20 a day...... A few half resin mini's are probably the least of my worries!!!

Seriously GW will not use a material that can cause cancer when trying to sell to kids. Well, they probably would of it was sure to get away with it and it was cheaper but no, the new stuff doesn't and apparently FW stuff hasn't used it for the past 6 years either.
I'm actually torn between giving GW no more cash and seeing what the new material is like to work with.

The radiation given off by the computer monitor you're reading these messages on is more carcinogenic than any product Forge World is selling to you.

GW might not, but their Chinese manufacturing "partner" probably would if they get a chance to save some money while they're sneaking extra copies of the product out the back door for resale elsewhere.

Lead poisoning does not lead to "insanity".

I can't see them using something toxic, that's the whole reason they went away from lead years ago.....or so they say. I think it was just to jack the prices....oh wait look!

Andrew1975 wrote:I can't see them using something toxic, that's the whole reason they went away from lead years ago.....or so they say. I think it was just to jack the prices....oh wait look! Actually, it was partially response to a proposed ban (NY state, USA?) on lead-related toys/hobbies in the US (The ban didn't go ahead, but the changes were already in place before they knew it wouldn't) and a rise in the price of the commodities markets. GW's biggest competitor (Ral Partha) had already announced plans to switch to "lead free" (their "Ralidium" line was very tinny - harder and more brittle, while being much lighter) and GW saw where the winds were blowing (they were still breaking into the US market). Polyurethane resins, while not anywhere near as bad as acrylic resins (which use MEK as a catalyst. MEK has been listed as a carcinogen in several countries and economic regions), are still not harmless in unmixed forms. FW still use PU resin. If GW were using a carcinogen (or other harmful substance) in "children's toys" they would be sooo kicked out of markets in the EU.

Weren't there some potential health risks with working with the older pewter models in the same way other than a lightened wallet? A chance of lead poisoning although I'd imagine it'd have to be a lot of exposure for that to happen.
Edit: Nvm just reread some posts above

I personally don't care if GW claims their new Finecost resiplasic is harmless.. wear a mask anyway. Same goes with plastic and metal too.
Inhaling ANY particles other than plain old air is just bad. Be nice to your lungs and maybe you'll still have em when you're 80.

That, and they wouldn't be allowed to if it was carcinogenic. At least not with a massive 'NOT FOR SALE TO CHILDREN' sign on it.

The issue with resin dust is that it gets in the lungs and causes breathing difficulties. Can't comment on Finecast because I don't know.
99% of claims to be carcinogenic are conjectural.
I asked the doctors how I got cancer, they didn't know. I asked why and was told that they still do not know conclusively what causes it.
You can avoid carcinogenics and still get cancer. You can smoke 30 a day and live past 80, like my great-aunt. Life sucks, live it while you can.
