They're remaking the Dambusters? How damn. I saw that again the other day. I'd forgotten just how very very bad the AA effects looked. (Yes, I know, it's old and it was what the technical limitations would allow. Still looked awful).

The best part would be if all three of them played their characters dead serious through out the whole thing.

Sorry Bookwrack missed your post
Saw it a few years back when our local cinema did a special screening.
It was crude but like you say, they did the best with what they had available, but it was pretty impressive when the Lancasters arrived.
Think the whole cinema shook!

Of course they were able to have real Lancs back then, but Jackson has had at least three 1/1 scale Lancs built and shipped to NZ and has been doing jests with some new sort of blue screen cameras for the digital effects when looking out of the cockpit/bomb aimers position.
With CGI this could be immense!

Thats all it needs is Lord Flashheart and General Melchett turnning up in House

He is doing the Dam busters? Well thats going to rape history. I bet all the Lancs will be replaced with B-17s and that it was done by the Americans 8th Army air core...then again it might hold true to history.
I meen no offence but Hollywood dose like to change history abit (U571 comes to mind).
As for Fry being cast in the Hobbit I think he would make a good Master of Laketown. in the book I get the feeling that he is a snarky little fellow.

You think Stephen fry, possibly the most quintessentially English person alive, will make the dambusters remake american centric?

Interesting...

See my post above Ribon
Fry is writing the script, David Frost is producing and Jackson is a bit of a historical aviation buff.

So it bodes well. Of course it depends on the US reception of a story with not a lot in the way of American protagonists. ..
On second thoughts, "Mephis Belle II: Raid on the Ruhr Dams" here we come!

The Dam Busters is one of those true life stories that if they had made it up, you'd think it was the most ridiculously plotted movie you'd ever seen.

That reminds me, I picked up a biography of Barnes Wallis,
don't know what I've done with it.

Might be good to read in the bath if I can find it!
