So if he wants all jacks then he should play Karchev. He's basically a jack, and you don't need to run infantry with him if you don't want to. Theres a guy at my LGS who just runs Karchev and Jacks, something eventually gets into your lines.

Have you not been listening? The answer is: Cygnar.

Yeah, I don't get it. It's as if we're all telling him something, but the OP just sticks his fingers in his ears and keeps nodding.

I think he's looking for the faction that will be the most OTT when it's mostly jacks, and that's the problem with the game - every faction can run jacks well. CYGNAR - I'll say it again, CYGNAR - has an abundance of 'Jack Marshalls - nearly every unit's officer can have an attached Warjack. We've got solo's who can run 'jacks. We've got jacks of every flavor. So, in case you didn't hear:

Cygnar, Cygnar, CYGNAR!

You're not making any sense man, WHAT FACTION SHOULD HE BE PLAYING!?

I think cygnar actually has the most jack based warcasters. p/e Nemo, Kraye, and Darius are all focused around jacks

71 pts khador - 6 war casters
41 pts merc highborn - 3 warcasters

So despite an abundance of answers for a variety of reasons, because a few people loudly shout Cygnar it makes it so? That seems like backward thinking to me.

If it is the answer, thank you. However I suspect I'm looking for something different because I am inexperienced and do not fully grasp the gaming system. No need to get snippy, or sarcastic, or be an ass. I've thanked you for the information, your time and your honesty. Now be gracious and say "You're welcome."

I am a new-comer to Warmachine and I started with mercs.

Who is the best warcaster for mercenaries? and what is the best overall tank jack for them?

In regards to the OP,

Protectorate has the most ways to truly buff Jacks outside of the caster due to the Choir of Menoth, the Covenant, and the other support models. This means that any jack in the protectorate, regardless of caster becomes higher mat & pow than any other factions jacks (generally speaking of course, specific exceptions exist). Additionally, you can always bring Wracks, Vassals, & Reclaimers to any list, so you can buff up jacks with extra focus / extra attacks well beyond what your Focus stat is. Every caster has at least one buff that can be applied to jacks (though it may not always be the most optimal use of said buff).

Khador & Cygnar can both bring more jack marshalls, but generally speaking, marshaling a jack is wasting that jacks full potential whereas any jack in a protectorate force can be running at Mat 8 with +2 to damage as well as being able to make 4 or 5 attacks in a round easily (enough to destroy any single target you point them at)

If that isn't specific enough for you, I'm not sure I can answer your question / not sure what you're looking for. If by chance, you're looking for one faction that ONLY does jacks, it doesn't exist.

As to Dorian Gray, Mercs don't really have a Tank jack -- they have cheap jacks at every level. The Nomad is the gold standard for a 6 point jack -- Spd 5, Reach, Arm 18/19, 6 points. Of course, the Dwarf casters can't take Human jacks, so if you're thinking Gorten or Madhammer, then you're probably looking at the Driller -- yet another 6 point jack with Arm 19 and sustained attack (hit once and you don't need to roll to hit again).

As for what caster is best, thats very subjective. Best at what? Assassination? pMagnus probably has an edge due to just how amazing a pair of obliterator rockets can be. Jack Attrition? Thats probably Broadside Bart as he can pump all of his jacks up with +3 arm. Troop Support? Probably Gorten or the new Stelhead caster as both has solid support spells as well as feats that help your troops do their best. Best at doing everything on their own? Probably Ashlynn, though Shae and McBain aren't bad either.

All of them seem to have their benefits (not counting Rhulics, who are essentially a different faction). And I haven't looked much at magnus yet. So what you actually want depends on what you're after.

Fiona is scary with a dakka heavy infantry army. Shae can take a freebooter 15" in one round, and his theme lists first tier (solos cost one less point, which gives him 5 high quality solos for 1 point each) is incredible, especially since he only loses access to two models. Bartolo has a couple spells that are better than some feats (batten down the hatches on a heavy jack list, or broadside on any list with a lot of ranged attacks). Drake can boost a jack like nobodies business (except his feat boosts warrior models, go figure), and Ashlynn can boost herself to insane levels, synergizes insanely well with anything that has critical effects, and she survives failed assassination runs.

As for tanks, there are tougher jacks, and there are stronger jacks, but the nomad costs 6 points.
